CNN chief White House correspondent Jim Acosta was loudly heckled by supporters of President Donald Trump at presidential rally in Tampa Bay on Tuesday.
As Acosta broadcast live from the event, a crowd of rally attendees surrounding him chanted “CNN sucks” and shouted, “traitor,” and “you’re a liar.”
Multiple reporters posted video of the interaction, which featured many attendees shouting "boo" in the direction of Acosta.
Another video features individuals, many wearing pro-Trump clothing or wearing buttons, shouting "CNN sucks" at Acosta.
At one point Acosta told Wolf Blitzer, “You can hear there is a chorus of boos and other chants from this Trump crowd here… saying things like ‘CNN sucks,’ ‘go home,’ and ‘fake news.’ Wolf, obviously all of things are false.
Like a proud parent, Blitzer replied “good for you” for doing “exactly what you're supposed to be doing in a country that appreciates a free press.”
The latest barrage on Acosta comes as the relationship between the Trump administration and the network remains tense. Trump
refused to take a question from Acosta in a press conference earlier this month.
On Monday, Acosta yelled at Trump, asking the President a question about Russian collusion following a news conference in the Oval Office with Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte.
Acosta has repeatedly
defended his practice of shouting questions at the president – something he’s done on multiple occasions after the president either stopped taking questions from reporters or refused to take any at all.
