U.S. Army Launches Ground Offensive In Syria And Iraq As 101st Airborne Division Deploys To Middle East

Flag draped caskets will soon be arriving once again at Dover AFB as Obama and his Pentagon madmen set the stage for WWIII with Russia

By Peter Korzun

In a significant change of strategy, the United States has announced that it is going to deploy "boots on the ground" soon to assist local forces in fighting the extremist group Islamic State (IS).

With the Iraq and Afghanistan wars fresh in memory, the US has made public its decision to get involved militarily in another Middle East conflict.

US Vice President Joe Biden said on January 23 that the United States and Turkey were prepared for a military solution against the Islamic State in Syria should the Syrian government and rebels fail to reach a political settlement. The Syria peace talks planned to begin on January 25 in Geneva are at risk of being delayed partly because of a dispute over the composition of the opposition delegation.

The US plans are detailed enough. "The storied 101st Airborne Division will soon deploy 1,800 troops to Iraq to aid in the fight against ISIL (Islamic State).

They will head there with the support of the American people and armed with a clear campaign plan to help our allies deliver the barbaric organization a lasting defeat," writes US Defense Secretary Ashton Carter in an article published by Politico.

"More dead soldiers and Marines?  Why not?"

The Secretary said the US focuses on three military objectives. One, to take back the cities of Mosul, Iraq and Raqqah, Syria – the objectives that constitute terrorists’ centers of gravity. Two, fight the Islamic State (IS) group worldwide. Three, protect the homeland.

The same day CNBC quoted a statement by the US Secretary of defense Ashton Carter that the Western coalition to use ground troops in the fight against the terrorist group in Syria and Iraq.

Mainstream media frauds once again shill for war

Though the US military presence in Iraq has been steadily growing over the past year-and-a-half, this marks the first time a senior official acknowledged the presence of combat troops (not instructors) on spot. The policy shift is a clear turnaround from the Obama's previous stance of not deploying combat troops in Iraq and Syria and one sure to shape the foreign policy debate in the 2016 election. These announcements provoke experts into making a lot of hay over whether that meant the US was engaged in ground war in these countries. Secretary Carter told Congress members that American soldiers would be conducting raids in places including Syria as far back as last October.

The US War Powers Resolution requires the President to notify Congress within 48 hours of committing armed forces to military action and forbids armed forces from remaining for more than 60 days, with a further 30 day withdrawal period, without a Congressional authorization for use of military force or a declaration of war.

Obama determined to spark WWIII before leaving office
The US ground presence in Iraq, which began with the commitment of a mere 300 advisors in June of 2014, has increased to over 3,500. In Syria, the Obama Administration has moved to establish a permanent presence by US special operators, ostensibly to bolster the logistics of local fighters battling the jihadists.

This isn’t the first time US special operations units have been on the ground in Syria, but it is the first time they will stay. Like in Vietnam, Lebanon, Somalia and a host of other locations, the commitment of ground troops gradually grows into an often ill-defined unpopular military campaign in a country of marginal consequence.

The new White House policy directly contradicts multiple promises personally made by President Barack Obama that he would not put combat boots on the ground in Syria.

"I will not put American boots on the ground in Syria," Obama said during a televised national address on September 10, 2013. "I will not pursue an open-ended action like Iraq or Afghanistan."

Americans should prepare themselves to see scenes like these once again

During his 2013 address, Obama said one major reason for his firm, no-troops-in-Syria policy is that Americans are "sick and tired" of aimless, unending wars in the Middle East. The Obama administration is yet to publicly identify the goals it plans to achieve through the deployment of combat troops in Syria.

The Islamic State became a major player in the region after US departure from Iraq. The US military had largely wiped out extremists in the province of Anbar before withdrawing. With US troops gone, the group was able to rebuild in what is often referred to by outsiders as the "vacuum" that followed America’s presence.

Winning war, the US fails to build peace with no local governments and militaries in place to effectively maintain law and order. The probability is great that injecting US ground forces into the fight against the Islamic State would result in the very same thing America has experienced all too frequently in recent years – a kind of perpetual war with little chance of reaching the expected outcome and the risk to spark broader escalation. This is confirmed by terrible outcomes of the recent operations in Libya and the mishandled ventures in Iraq and Afghanistan.

There is a crucially important aspect of the matter that the US leaders have not mentioned in their statements. What other countries will commit ground forces? Have they made arrangements regarding the rules of engagement? What norms of international law exactly will be used to justify the action? It’s hard to imagine the Syrian and Iraqi governments approve the idea of having US combat troops deployed on their soil. For instance, Iraqi leaders have said "no" on many occasions. Once the decision is taken and the operation actually started, the US has to make arrangements with the Russia-Syria-Iran coalition.

The deployment of ground troops is impossible without coordinating activities with the Russian and Syrian forces. Even if the US and its NATO allies act in violation of international law, the deployment should be preceded by intensive talks between the Russian and military leaders. The establishment of a coordination cell is inevitable. It all makes intensive Russia-NATO military-to-military contacts an issue of paramount importance.

No doubt, it’s not a pure coincidence that the US troops deployment takes place at the very same time the UN-sponsored negotiation process on Syria is about to kick off in Geneva.

Seattle Sues Monsanto Over Chemical Contamination Of River

The death-knell sounds for the Monsanto poisoners in the U.S. as the public suddenly becomes aware

The City of Seattle is suing Monsanto over allegations that the agrochemical giant polluted the Lower Duwamish River and city drainage pipes, becoming the sixth city to file a lawsuit against the company.

Duwamish River
The complaint was filed in federal court on Monday by two firms, Baron & Budd and Gomez Trial Attorneys, on behalf of Seattle. The lawsuit claims that the industrialized Lower Duwamish River was contaminated by polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), and that Monsanto continued to produce the chemicals despite knowing about the health and environmental risks that they pose.

“Long after the dangers of PCBs were widely known, Monsanto continued its practice of protecting its business interests at our expense,” City Attorney Pete Holmes said in a statement. “The City intends to hold Monsanto accountable for the damage its product wreaked on our environment.”

Monsanto produced PCBs – chemical compounds used in applications such as paints, caulks, electrical equipment and building materials – in the United States from the early 1930s until the late 1970s, when Congress banned their production over worries about health.

Seattle’s suit contends that Monsanto concealed information that the chemicals were “a global contaminant,” and in fact increased PCB production after the company found out about the extent of their polluting qualities.

The Duwamish is a Chinook and Coho salmon spawning stream

PCBs have been detected in 82 percent of drainage pipes in the Lower Duwamish drainage basin. The chemicals are associated with cancer, nervous system illness and reproductive illnesses in humans, and can lead to the destruction of fish habitats.

Seattle is the sixth city to file a suit against Monsanto for PCB contamination, joining the California cities of San Jose, Oakland, Berkeley and San Diego in California, as well as fellow the Washington city of Spokane.

The Lower Duwamish is considered an Environmental Protection Agency Superfund site, meaning that it is so polluted that the federal government has stepped in to help with cleanup.

The EPA estimates that the final cost of all cleanup efforts in the river will cost $342 million, according to The Stranger.

“The City will incur significant costs to remove PCBs from stormwater and wastewater effluent flowing into the Lower Duwamish, costs that should not be borne by the City or by its taxpayers but by the company that knew its product would cause this contamination,” John Fiske of Gomez Trial Attorneys said in a release.

The Davos Blind Eye : How the Rich Eat The Poor And The World

The poor have become too poor and the rich too rich, and no amount of money nor private security will protect them from the coming pogrom of the "elites" and satanic social engineers

By Prof. John McMurty

The just-released Oxfam Davos Report which the mass media have ignored arrestingly shows that 62 individuals – 388 in 2010 – now own more wealth than 50% of the world’s population. More shockingly, it reports from its uncontested public sources that this share of wealth by half of the world’s people has collapsed by over 40% in just the last five years.

Yet the big lies persist even here that “the progress has been made in tackling world poverty” and “extreme poverty has been halved since 1990”. Unbelievably, the endlessly repeated assertion of the form that ‘the poor are being lifted out of poverty in ever greater numbers’ continues on untouched despite the hard evidence that, in fact, the poorer half of humanity has lost almost half of their wealth in just the last five years.

This big lie is significant in its implications. For not only is a pervasive claim about the success of globalization undeniably falsified while no-one notices it.

Basic market theory and dogma collapses as a result. What is daily claimed as an infallible benefit of the global market is shown to be the opposite of reality. What does it mean for “trickle-down theory” when, in truth, the trickle down goes up in hundreds of billions of dollars to the rich from the already poor and destitute?

What can we say now of the tirelessly proclaimed doctrine that the global market brings “more wealth for all” when, in fact, unimpeachable business evidence shows the opposite reality on the ground and across the world. For the poor have undeniably lost almost half their share of global wealth while the richest have multiplied theirs at the same time.

The evidence proves, in short, that the main moral and economic claims justifying the global market are very big lies becoming bigger all the time.

Worse than delusional, the lived reality of impoverishment of billions of people is reversed, the victims are continually proclaimed to be doing better under the system that increasingly deprives them of what little they have, and a trillion dollars worth of loss to the poorer half of humanity ends up in the pockets of the rich within only five years.

While the ever bigger lies go on justifying the global system that eats the poor alive as “poverty amelioration”, ever more of the same policies of accumulation by dispossession justify still more stripping of the majority as more “austerity”, more “welfare cuts”, and more “labor flexibility” – in a word, more starvation and depredation of people’s lives and life conditions as “more freedom and prosperity for all."

The Statistical Shell Game that Masks the Life-Devouring Reality

As World Bank, IMF and like figures claim to show the uplifting of the poor out of poverty across the world, media of record like The Guardian and the New York Times report the claims with headlines to show all is well and getter for the poor and the majority as they are in fact grindingly reduced in their actual lives, work and life security. Thus the very big lies are instituted as given facts which economists and social scientists propagate without a blink.

In fact, these alleged great gains for the poor out of poverty and absolute poverty alike are based on income gains of less than a cup of coffee a day, an observation that is so well blocked from view that readers may now be seeing it for the first time. Thus the hypnotic thrall of the big lies are sustained, while no other life support system is. I have had economists and interviewers of high note respond angrily when this delusion is pointed out, as if I was letting down the poor rather than exposing the big lies. In this way, we find that the masking falsehoods have gone so deep into expert and public assumption that the real-life world can no longer be engaged.

These big lies then work in the background to the non-stop big lies that precede endless foreign conflicts and wars to “defend the free world.”

No-one appears to observe that the income gains ’lifting the poor out of poverty’ typically refer to emigrants from the countryside into polluted cities, insecure and dehumanized life conditions for those who formerly had at least a family dwelling, clean air and water and living horizons. In short, the standard $1.50 +/- measure of uplift out of poverty and extreme poverty is inhumanly absurd, but triumphally used as proof that the system is serving the least too.

The Counter-Revolution against Social Evolution that Engineers Deepening Recession

Throughout the unseen redistribution of wealth from the poor to the rich (now buried in much talk of “inequality”), ever more “market reforms” are enforced as “enhanced competition”, “liberalized de-regulation”, “reduced welfare costs” and “austerity programs to correct excesses”. The “excessive entitlements” of the system are all projected on the victims so that the truly insane entitlements of the richest to multiply their fortunes with no committed life function, value or coordinate but still more money-demand for them is somehow not noticed. This is yet another level of normalized big lies forming the ruling thought system.

In fact beneath the pervasive propaganda conditioning citizens to believe in the private money shell game devouring the world, the poorer half of humanity has been deprived of one trillion dollars of wealth while the 62 richest people have gained almost twice as much for themselves by the operations of this global disorder. Yet the Davos Report further emphasizes that still another US $760 billion goes annually to non-producing investors by immense transnational tax evasion with impunity across the world. Again the borderless money-capital freedom of ‘globalization’ vastly enriches the richest, while simultaneously doubling down on deprivation of the poor as ‘poverty reduction’.

Here the system is programmed in effect to strip the funding of all public sectors and institutions which have evolved to serve the common life interest. Public services and infrastructures too are perpetually driven towards bankruptcy not only by never-ending defunding, cutbacks, privatizations, and corporate lobby control of public policies and subsidies, but by ever-soaring public tax evasion near one trillion dollars annually about which governments and trade treaties have done nothing to correct yet.

Thus governments which could invest in sustaining humanity’s social and ecological life support systems from growing deterioration and collapse are now systematically bankrupted or debt enslaved along with most citizens. In consequence without governments knowing why, the world economy slips into ever deeper recession from the collapse of economic demand at the public and majority levels.

Eating the World Alive as Global Competition

The new law of human evolution is that are required to compete for more money and commodities for themselves as “necessary to survive”, with the borderless system de-regulated and structured to increasingly impoverish the great majority while multiplying the wealth of the rich. The facts are now long in. Corporate globalization is not only out of control. It is eating the world alive at all levels towards cumulative collapse of organic, social and ecological life organisation.

Global competition means, in fact, the majority’s life means and security keep falling as the environment is looted and polluted on ever larger scales of depredation. Yet only “more growth” of this system is imagined as a solution. The system is clinically insane. While the common life-ground is blinkered out a-priori by the ruling value system, those deprived and left behind disappear into multi-level big lies proclaiming the opposite.

This is why the facts are not reported. This is why claimed actions to stop the world bleeding blinker out the system disorder causing them. This is why even progressives assume economic falsehoods as if they were true. Like a cancer system at the macro level, this exponentially multiplying private money-sequence system has only one set-point – to blindly grow itself while masking the life-devouring disorder as “enhancing people’s well-being”.

U.S. To Illegally Build Military Base In Syria In Preparation For Ground War

Obama, DOD, Pentagon take the next step towards WWIII with Russia

By Andrei Akulov

U.S. Defense Secretary Ashton Carter told CNBC on January 22 he wants to speed up the battle to defeat the Islamic State.

In an interview with "Squawk Box" at the World Economic Forum, Carter said the United States' active allies in the fight are doing a lot, but can do more.

Specifically, he said he wants to defeat ISIS in the northern Iraqi city of Mosul and its home base in Raqqa, Syria.

In two weeks, Carter will meet with a broad group of defense ministers where he said he will press those who are in the fight «on paper» but are not doing enough. The Secretary said the United States would continue to keep boots on the ground.

"We're looking for opportunities to do more, and there will be boots on the ground – I want to be clear about that – but it's a strategic question, whether you are enabling local forces to take and hold, rather than trying to substitute for them," as he put it.

Yes, indeed, the plans for ground operation have come into the open. And there is something being done by the US in pure practical terms. The United States has begun construction of an airbase in Kurdish controlled northeast Syria.

Babbling traitor Carter along with the Pentagon
and JCS will be held responsible and accountable
for each and every military death in Syria and Iraq
Air Force specialists are working to reconstruct and equip a disused facility, reportedly located several kilometers south of the small town of Rimelan in the northeast Syrian province of Hasakah, close to Iraqi Kurdistan. The area is under control of Kurdish People's Defense Units (YPG). Lebanese newspaper Al-Akhbar reports, the runway is planned to be expanded to 2500m in length and 250m in width. The Syrian Observer reported on January 20: "In a step which is the first of its kind, American helicopters have begun to use the Rimelan airport in the countryside of the Syrian province of Hasakah.

Syrian activists recorded the landing of two helicopters on Tuesday, January 19, at the airport, which lies in the province’s northeast, near the border with Iraq and is under the control of the Kurdish ‘self-administration’."

The Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said equipment had been used to widen the airport runway in recent weeks, while a number of helicopters had taken off and landed.

On January 20, Pentagon spokesman Col. Steve Warren confirmed that there is an operation “ongoing” in that area at a press briefing.

Asked about local reporting in Syria saying that two US hovercrafts have provided ammunition and weapons to Kurdish fighters in the region of Hasakah, he said, “That operation is ongoing. But because of the special nature of these forces, it's very important that we not discuss specifically where they're located. And as discussions of where these forces are located bubble up through the press, it puts those forces at increased risk. So I would urge everyone to take an appetite suppressant and not feel like they have to print the rumors that they've heard about the locations of American Special Forces. That puts lives at risk.”

In his comments about mounting offensive operations in the Hasakah area, Air Force Col. Pat Ryder, a spokesman for US Central Command, said, "In the coming weeks, you're going to see significant fighting in that area as ISIL realizes that Shadadi is a key node in their lines of communications."

The airport will enable Washington to have a safe place to land its forces, commando units for instance, and bring in military support to its allies who are working to finalize control over Southern Hasakah countryside. A US military facility on Syrian soil significantly escalates the level of US ground involvement in the conflict. Last October the US announced its decision to send Special Operations Forces (SOF) to Syria.

U.S. military now closer to mutiny than any time in
In early December, 2015, the number of SOF troops was substantially increased. The fact that the US military are to deploy to Rimelan shows that the preparations are on the way for the next SDF assault against the Islamic State. The US military uses the airbase to increase the level of air support which they provide to Kurdish forces. It serves as a further indication that the US has chosen this group as its privileged ally in Syria, following failed attempts to cooperate with other forces in the country.

Any US-backed operation in northwestern Syria would have implications impossible to predict. Washington should consider ethnic identities in their battle plan for Syria. Syrian Kurds, though reliable and effective allies when it comes to defending their territory, are not an ideal invasion force for Raqqa, a Sunni Arab city. That’s why the US encouraged the creation of the Syrian Defense Forces, an alliance publicly announced for the first time in October. The US has tried to play down the SDF's Kurdish element and make it look like a multiethnic, multisectarian group. US officials emphasize the SDF has non-Kurdish components, but the true extent of Arab support remains blur. The Turks may change their priorities as the US military empowers Syrian Kurdish forces, specifically YPG.

Turkish leaders have been engaged in a decades-old conflict with its own Kurdish minority and do not want to see the Syrian Kurds expand. However, if Turkey fails to seal off its side of the border, the US could move to help the YPG block the Islamic State in that zone. An attack on the base by Turkey, an avowed opponent of an independent Kurdish state, would mean Turkey had committed an act of war against the United States.

Turkey has already exacerbated its relations with another nuclear power when it downed a Russian jet.

The Syria’s government forces still hold large swaths of territory there. Large chunks of land are controlled by groups linked to al-Qaida. Russia is actively involved in military operation in the area. Whatever the goal, the plan will put American and allied warplanes closer than ever to areas that Syrian aircraft regularly bomb, raising the question of what they will do if Syrian warplanes attack their partners on the ground.

A US military base in Syria commits America to a prolonged military occupation in the country, which parallels its decade-plus long military involvement in Iraq and Afghanistan. The predictable military drift from air strikes to taking territory provides a perpetual pretext for US intervention in Syria and the region, as the Rimelan airfield borders both Iraq and Turkey.

Are Americans and military families prepared for yet another round of THIS?

In the long run, it may lead to the de facto split of the country with the US and Russia directly supporting different sides in the fight against the common threat.

The sad experience of operations in Iraq and Afghanistan shows how easy it is to get entangled in the faraway conflicts with no way out of the fray. Operating a military base in Syria is a game changing decision that presupposes great responsibility. Think twice before you jump, wise men say. And now the main thing – the plans to build the base, as well as the plans to launch a ground offensive by the US-led coalition, are illegal from point of view of international law as it has neither agreement with the internationally recognized Syrian government, nor the approval of UN Security Council, nor the endorsement of American people.

We have already discussed in the first part of this analysis how the American geography dooms whoever controls the territory to being a global power, but there are a number of other outcomes that shape what that power will be like. The first and most critical is the impact of that geography on the American mindset.
