Rolling Stone : University Of Virginia Fraternity Gang Rape Story Being "Called Into Question"

Inexcusable, worse than irresponsible, a clear cut case of malfeasance in reporting:  Rolling Stone done in attempting to compete with sensationalist corporate MSM

Rolling Stone‘s story, “A Rape on Campus: A Brutal Assault and Struggle for Justice at UVA” by Sabrina Rubin Erdely, is truly horrific and reads like a work of dark fiction.

Rolling Stone blows it
The story rocked the University of Virginia, where it allegedly occurred, as well as other campuses across the U.S.

It also lead to UVA suspending fraternities until January and a harsh media spotlight on the UVA campus, reports the Washington Post.

Last but not least, the “Rape on Campus” story also inspired a surprisingly late investigation by local police since the story’s alleged fraternity gang rape occurred in the Fall of 2012.

But now the veracity of the shocking “Rape On Campus” story is being questioned, or at least the journalistic integrity of the story and its author, Sabrina Rubin Erdely. Given the sordid history of rape in the U.S. (and elsewhere), with frightened, humiliated victims often being afraid to report the crime and even being blamed for its occurrence, the fact that other journalists are being forced to question Erdely’s story makes it a double-edged tragedy.

The Rolling Stone story starts off by introducing “Jackie,” a lovely, bright, enthusiastic freshman girl at the University of Virginia. She innocently but excitedly accepts a date with a popular frat boy, “Drew,” to his fraternity’s date party. Once in the frat house, Jackie struggles to fit in by sipping some spiked punch before fraternity date Drew escorts her to a dark upstairs room where several other frat boys are waiting and proceed to rape her for hours as some kind of fraternity rite of passage until she passes out. Upon awaking, Jackie is bloody and sick but able to flee the frat house to seek help from her friends.

Sabrina Rubin Erdely
The friends however turn out to be self-absorbed heartless monsters that are more concerned about future relations within the Greek Community than seeking obviously needed medical help for Jackie, not to mention calling police to report the beyond-brutal crime. So what are media pundits questioning about Erdely’s “Jackie” story and the way she reported it? Primary concerns are journalistic issues like Erdely failing to mention whether or not she attempted to contact “Drew,” Jackie’s fraternity member-date that got her into the room where the alleged gang rape took place, reports USA Today.

When asked by the Washington Post about such journalistic issues with the story, specifically if she tried to contact Drew or if she knew who the other alleged rapists were, Erdely shrugged the question off, saying she’d made an agreement with Jackie not to divulge those details.

Following that was an interview with Slate where Erdely seemed evasive about her investigation and lack of sources to back up the validity of her “Rape On Campus” story.

Erdely told Slate that she’d tried, but failed, to contact the alleged rapists in “multiple ways,” and that “(t)hey were kind of hard to get in touch with because (the fraternity’s) contact page was pretty outdated.”

Having Erdely’s back, however, is Sean Woods, the editor at Rolling Stone who edited the “Rape On Campus” story, saying that while Erdely didn’t actually speak with Drew or the other alleged rapists, they did “verify their existence.”

“I’m satisfied that these guys exist and are real. We knew who they were,” said editor Woods.

Rolling Stone also said in a statement that “(t)hrough our extensive reporting and fact-checking, we found Jackie to be entirely credible and courageous and we are proud to have given her disturbing story the attention it deserves.”

But questions about Sabrina Rubin Erdely’s Rolling Stone UVA gang rape story continue to elicit response.

Yet another protest sparked by sensationalist, unverified, unsupervised "reporting" - where were Erdly's editors?

Tim McGuire, who teaches journalism ethics at Arizona State, feels “uncomfortable” with some of the reporting aspects of the story, especially since “Drew” has reportedly, and widely, been seen on the UVA campus.

“That was a really bad deal… They needed to call Drew and see his reaction. I am ethically discomfited by this story. I wanted some confrontation with the accused. Somebody’s got to know who that is… The thing that is disappointing is when you have a story with such incredible power, you wish they’d really nailed it up.”

Regardless, Erdely says that Rolling Stone lawyers signed off on the story and that neither the University of Virginia, nor local law enforcement authorities, have called for any retractions.

And, in an email to the the Post, Erdely makes her thoughts clear and final, saying, “The gang-rape scene that leads the story is the alarming account that Jackie — a person whom I found to be credible — told to me, told her friends, and importantly, what she told the UVA administration, which chose not to act on her allegations in any way — i.e., the overarching point of the article. THAT is the story.”

CDC : Severe Flu Season Possible - Claims Oseltamivir "Effective"

Anyone taking this vaccination or listening to anything the CDC says should be visiting a psychiatrist: Oseltamivir has been proven to be responsible for suicides, sleepwalking, hallucinations in both adults and children and should not be taken under any circumstances

This winter's flu season could be more severe than usual, the CDC is warning.

H3N2 "Copycat Strain"
While activity is low so far, most of the circulating virus is the H3N2 strain of influenza A, according to CDC Director Tom Frieden, MD.

When H3N2 virus predominates, "we tend to have seasons that are worse flu years, with more hospitalizations from flu and more deaths from influenza," Frieden told reporters in a telephone briefing.

In the week ending Nov. 22, he said, 91% of 1,200 samples tested were influenza A -- almost all of them H3N2 -- and 9% were influenza B.

Only a small fraction were H1N1 influenza, which has predominated in recent years.

But a second factor might foretell a bad flu season, Frieden said: Of the H3N2 samples, only 48% were matched to this year's vaccine and the majority of samples were "drifted" variants with slightly different immunogenic molecules.

One possible implication, Frieden said, is that the seasonal vaccine now distributed across the country might be less effective than usual, although he added that sometimes vaccines remain effective against drifted strains.

Tune out, ignore CDC liars
"There's no way to predict with certainty what's going to happen," he said.

Frieden said some 150 million doses of vaccine have been distributed and urged people to get their shot.

The drifted virus was first detected in March, he said, but was only seen to be common in September, which was too late to include it in this year's vaccine.

So far this season, there have already been five pediatric deaths caused by flu and Joseph Bresee, MD, head of the agency's Influenza Epidemiology and Prevention Branch, said four of them are linked to influenza A and one to influenza B.

Three of the four with influenza A had H3N2 viruses, he told MedPage Today, but the CDC doesn't know if any of those were the drifted variant.

The agency has issued a Health Alert Network Advisory warning clinicians of the risk of more severe disease and urging them to use antiviral medications as an "adjunct to vaccination."

The approved medications -- oseltamivir (Tamiflu) and zanamivir (Relenza) -- can shorten the duration of illness and lessen the severity of symptoms, Frieden said.

He urged people at elevated risk for severe flu -- those with lung disease, for instance, or pregnant women -- to seek medical attention quickly when symptoms start and to ask their physicians about antivirals.

The therapy is only effective when given within 48 hours of symptom onset and generally shortens the symptomatic period by about a day, he added.

The treatment of influenza with antiviral drugs

Antivirals are "greatly underprescribed," Frieden said, perhaps because doctors have a "misconception" that they should have a positive influenza test in hand before giving the drugs.

The drugs have come under fire lately, with a review earlier this year suggesting the benefits are smaller and the risks greater than had been thought.

But Frieden said CDC scientists think there are some methodological issues with the review and remain persuaded -- at least for oseltamivir -- that "evidence is strong" that it is beneficial.

"It is not a miracle drug, but we believe it is an effective, drug," he said.

U.S. "Ridiculous" Line On Egypt? Jen Psaki Caught On Hot Mic

What these Obamaite propagandists as servants of the public must be forced to understand is when they are asked a question by the media or Congress they WILL ANSWER THE QUESTION or see themselves hounded and laughed out of their positions; WH press should simply boycott Obama's "fecal follies" until such time as our servants answer questions put to them truthfully and comprehensively

U.S. State Department spokesperson Jen Psaki has been caught on a hot mic calling one of her prepared statements about the acquittal of Egypt’s ex-leader Hosni Mubarak “ridiculous.”

"Now, children of the press… you know what I
REALLY meant,"
During a press briefing on Monday, AP journalist Matt Lee asked Psaki to comment on an Egyptian court’s decision to acquit former President Hosni Mubarak of murder.

The State Department spokesperson attempted to dodge the question with a convoluted platitude.

“Generally, we continue to believe that upholding impartial standards of accountability will advance the political consensus on which Egypt’s long-term stability and economic growth depends,” she said on camera.

Reporters, including Lee, did not find that satisfying, but Psaki evaded their questions, saying she would not comment further.

Screeching, loser propagandists and failed attorneys now dominate MSM media scene; clucking, babbling fruitcakes pretend to know what they are talking about as the public howls with laughter at their ridiculous comedy routines

“What does that mean?” a flummoxed voice can be heard asking.

“Wow. I don’t understand that at all,” the bemused Lee pushes. “What you said says nothing. It’s like saying ‘We support the right of people to breathe.’ That’s great, but if you can’t breathe.”

Obama propagandists Psaki and Harf have destroyed what precious little credibility administration possessed with illiterate verbal gyrations and fantasies they are somehow fooling journalists and the public they are supposed to be serving

As the conference comes to an end and the lights dim, Psaki — seemingly unaware that her microphone is still on — suddenly goes off script.

“That Egypt line is ridiculous,” she can be heard saying, as Lee guffaws.

Harf unqualified to flip burgers
CNC reports that Lee also grilled State Department spokesperson Marie Harf on US reaction to the Mubarak trial the next day.

Harf reportedly stuck to her talking points and refused to comment on the issue. When Matt Lee expressed frustration, she commiserated—kind of—saying, “I share your pain.”

The US, which supplies Egypt with over one billion dollars in aid annually, has largely steered clear of criticizing Egyptian policy.

Mubarak’s acquittal last month prompted hundreds of demonstrators to take to Tahrir Square, the site of the 2011 revolution that led to his ousting. Mubarak had been charged with the killing of 239 protesters during the uprising against him.

We have already discussed in the first part of this analysis how the American geography dooms whoever controls the territory to being a global power, but there are a number of other outcomes that shape what that power will be like. The first and most critical is the impact of that geography on the American mindset.
