205 Dead In Turkey Mine Explosion, Hundreds Trapped

Obama/CIA/NATO poodle Erdogan responsible; possible death-blow to corrupt regime already on the skids

A mine explosion in western Turkey has killed 205, according to Energy Minister Taner Yildiz, and the toll could rise with many more still trapped.

Yildiz told reporters 787 workers were in the Soma mine when the explosion hit a power unit, Reuters reported.

Most of the confirmed dead were killed by carbon monoxide poisoning, Yildiz added.

An additional 80 people were injured and hospitalized, he said, four of them in critical condition.

AP reported that more than 200 miners are still trapped in the debris. More than 360 workers have been evacuated thus far.

However, Yidiz said that hopes for the rescue effort were "dimming". "We are worried that this death toll will rise," he told reporters.

"We fear that the numbers could rise further," he stated, adding that it was necessary to complete the rescue operation by dawn.

Rescue workers pumped oxygen into the mine in an attempt to keep trapped miners alive, Reuters reported. A line of police held back thousands of family and fellow workers of the trapped miners who assembled outside of a Soma hospital.

"Fresh air, oxygen is being pumped into the mine. This is the most important thing for our workers down there," Yildiz said. The mayor of Soma, a district in Manisa, also said the explosion was caused by an electrical fault, Reuters reported. The explosion, which occurred about 1.2 miles below the surface, reportedly disabled an elevator in the mine shaft.

The workers are trapped some 2.5 miles from the exit.

Soma is 120 km (75 miles) northeast of the Aegean coastal city of Izmir.

Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan cancelled a Wednesday trip to Albania in order to visit the site of the blast, his office told Reuters.

"Rescue efforts for our brothers in the mine are ongoing ... God willing, in the coming hours, I hope to receive uplifting news," Erdogan said Tuesday.

Dictator Erdogan responsible for tragedy
Turkey’s worst mining disaster in recent years was a gas explosion in 1992 near the Black Sea port of Zonguldak, which left some 270 workers dead. Since then, Turkey has borne witness to several mining accidents.

MERS Symptoms Seen In Two Florida Health Workers ; WHO Calls Meeting

CDC. WHO, MSM will pay a high price for downplaying seriousness of the spread of this man-made "novel" virus and ignoring existing quarantine protocols to preserve profits for airlines

CHICAGO TRIBUNE
05/13/2014

Two health workers at a Florida hospital exposed to a patient with Middle East Respiratory Syndrome have begun showing flu-like symptoms, raising concerns about the ability of global health authorities to contain the mysterious and deadly virus.

MERS
The World Health Organization convened an emergency meeting in Geneva on Tuesday to decide whether the rising rate of confirmed cases, most of them in Saudi Arabia, constitutes a "public health emergency of international concern."

Florida officials said they were monitoring the health of 20 healthcare workers who had been in contact with the patient, including a doctor who had already left for Canada. They also were trying to track down nearly 100 people who may have overlapped with the patient at two Orlando medical facilities he visited.

"We're not going to see the last of this," said Dr. Kevin Sherin, director of the Florida Department of Health for Orange County. "We are going to see more cases coming to our community. ... All of the emergency departments in the United States, to be perfectly honest, need to become very familiar with the Middle East Respiratory Syndrome, and making sure the protocols are in place."

The Florida MERS case is the second on U.S. soil. Both involved healthcare workers who spent time in Saudi Arabia before "importing" the infection to the United States.

The Transportation Security Administration, at the request of the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, is posting MERS warning signs at 22 major U.S. airports, including all three in the New York City area, a U.S. official said.

The warning notes that the risk to most travelers is low but that people who get sick within 14 days of being in the Arabian Peninsula should call a doctor.

Disease experts say it is crucial that hospitals ask anyone who presents with fever or respiratory illness the person has recently been to the kingdom.

"Travel history is very important to ask about," said Dr. Amesh Adalja of the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center.

The virus, which causes coughing, fever and sometimes fatal pneumonia, has been reported in more than 500 patients in Saudi Arabia alone and has spread to neighboring countries and in a few cases, to Europe and Asia. It kills about 30 percent of those who are infected.

The CDC "is taking the current situation very seriously and is working in close coordination with local health authorities," said White House spokesman Jay Carney, who added that President Barack Obama had been briefed on the confirmed cases.

The WHO said its conclusions would be announced at a news conference on Wednesday. The last time the agency set up an emergency committee was in response to the 2009 H1N1 "swine flu" pandemic.

EMERGENCY DEPARTMENT

MERS is a virus from the same family as SARS, or Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome, which killed around 800 people worldwide after it first appeared in China in 2002. Like SARS, MERS spreads from close contact with an infected person.

Officials at the Dr. P. Phillips Hospital in Orlando said on Tuesday the two local healthcare workers exposed to the MERS patient in the emergency department became ill, with one developing symptoms within 24 hours of being exposed to the patient and one within 72 hours of exposure.

One of the workers has been hospitalized and the other is being isolated in his home and monitored.

Hospital officials said the workers' symptoms developed a bit earlier than would be expected for MERS, which typically takes five to 14 days to develop into symptoms. The hospital said it did not yet know if the workers had MERS, but they were put in isolation as a precautionary measure.

The Orlando patient's case highlights concerns over how to prevent the spread of infection, particularly among healthcare workers who are vulnerable because of close contact with the sick.

After working in a hospital in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, which has been treating MERS patients, the healthcare worker flew to London and reached the United States on May 1.

Although he had already begun to experience symptoms on the flight, they were mild, and he did not seek treatment at the Orlando hospital until last Thursday.

Last week, he visited with family and accompanied someone to another Orlando medical facility for a procedure. Even when he reached the emergency department close to midnight at Dr. P. Phillips Hospital, it was not until mid-morning the next day that he was placed in isolation.

Since the hospital is less than 10 minutes from the Universal Orlando and Walt Disney World theme parks, the staff is on alert to diseases from other countries. It conducted a drill last year that involved a fictitious case of MERS.

Orlando hospital officials said the MERS patient was doing well and had a low-grade fever and a slight cough.

"He's in good spirits. He's cooperating ... we have not decided yet when he will go home," said Dr. Antonio Crespo, chief quality officer at the hospital.

Crespo said the patient started experiencing muscle aches on his flight from Jeddah to London on April 30. He developed a fever during his flight from London to Boston, where he took connecting flights to Atlanta and finally Orlando.

Because of his travel history, the hospital suspected MERS and contacted the health department. An initial MERS test on Friday was "equivocal," but a test sample taken on Saturday confirmed the virus.

Even so, healthcare workers in the emergency department who attended to the patient were not wearing masks before it became clear that it might be a case of MERS.

The first U.S. MERS patient, who was admitted to a hospital in Indiana late last month, has been discharged.

U.S. Congressman Calls For Suspension Of U.S. Aid To Mexico Over Jailed Marine : MARINE CORPS COMBAT VETERAN SGT. ANDREW TAHMOORESSI REMAINS IN MEXICO PRISON NOW FOR 44 DAYS

THE 5TH ESTATE CALLS ON THE MEXICAN GOVERNMENT TO IMMEDIATELY RELEASE SGT. TAHMOORESSI ON HUMANITARIAN MEDICAL GROUNDS

05/13/2014

A key lawmaker on Monday called on the United States to suspend military aid to Mexico in light of the jailing of a Marine Corps sergeant who mistakenly entered the country with firearms.

Sgt. Andrew Tahmooressi USMC
Sgt. Andrew Tahmooressi, a 25-year-old combat veteran, was jailed in late March after he missed a freeway exit near San Ysidro, Calif., and drove into Tijuana, where Mexican authorities discovered he had three guns in his car. Although the guns were legally owned in the United States, and Tahmooressi had no intention of traveling to Mexico, he’s been jailed for more than a month.

On Monday, Rep. Duncan Hunter, R-Calif., a member of the House Armed Services committee, asked Secretary of Defense Chuck Hagel to suspend military aid to Mexico, including training, intelligence cooperation and equipment transfers.

“You have the authority to suspend cooperation with the Mexican military in a number of areas,” said Hunter, who served two tours as a member of the Marines Corps in Iraq and one in Afghanistan. “In light of the Mexican government’s incarceration of Andrew, I urge you to immediately consider suspending training and equipment assistance to Mexico until Andrew’s case is resolved.”

Representative Duncan Hunter
Also on Monday, Hunter authored a letter to Department of Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson, seeking information about unauthorized incursions by Mexican authorities into the United States, a request he says was motivated by Tahmooressi’s jailing.

Hunter has actively tried to secure Tahmooressi’s release. He has called on Secretary of State John Kerry to pressure Mexico into releasing him, and earlier this month, his office released a bipartisan letter signed by 21 members of Congress asking the Mexican attorney general to release him.

Tahmooressi was held inside La Mesa Prison in Tijuana after his March 31 arrest, though he was moved to another prison 40 miles east of Tijuana on Thursday, Hunter's office told FoxNews.com. After he allegedly attempted to escape and suffered a self-inflicted stab wound, he was at one point placed in a jail infirmary with his arms and legs restrained.

Sgt. Tahmooressi was arrested after missing a border turnoff and then being forced to continue into Mexico

Proceedings against Tahmooressi are scheduled for May 28, though U.S. lawmakers are urging them to be expedited and for all charges to be dropped.

Tahmooressi, an active U.S. Marine reservist who served two combat tours in Afghanistan, including a 2010 stint in the violent Marjah district, was moving to San Diego with a Marine friend be close to his treatment center for his post-traumatic stress disorder at the time of his arrest.

U.S., NATO, EU, UK Move World Closer To WIII With Further Provocations

Putin has the documented capacity to turn the EU and UK into blasted-out fields of radioactive rubble; insane Kiev fascists actually believe Obama will come to their rescue when they are overrun by the Russian Army

PRESS TV

An American political commentator says “war moves” by the US and NATO are bringing about a “new Cold War.”

According to media reports, US Strategic Command is conducting a massive nuclear arms drill called “Exercise Global Lightning 14” from May 12-16 “to deter and detect strategic attacks against the US and its allies.”

This comes as Russia conducted on Thursday its own large-scale nuclear response drill over its territory.

Joe Iosbaker, a United National Antiwar Committee leader, who spoke to Press TV in a phone interview on Tuesday, believes that “neither of these is a coincidence.”

“It is the US government that wants war,” Iosbaker said.

“In truth, the war moves by the US and NATO in Eastern Europe, and the Black Sea, and the Baltic Sea, are bringing about a new Cold War,” he said.

“Positioning destroyers and missiles, scheduling war games, imposing sanctions – which in this context, have to be seen as an act of war – all of these risk a wider war,” he added.

The US and NATO are the real aggressor in this crisis, according to Iosbaker, because they are “moving a so-called missile shield to Russia’s borders,” in addition to funding and backing “a fascist-led coup government in Ukraine”.

MSM swine will burn with first nuke impact in U.S.
“Russia is ringed by our military bases. Virtually all the nations that were part of the Warsaw Alliance 25 years ago have been brought into NATO, although the US government had promised the Russians that would never happen.”

As part of the drill, the US military is going to fly 10 nuclear armed B-52s and six B-2 bombers in an attempt to demonstrate US military flexibility and responsiveness.

US Strategic Command insists the drill is not a response to Russia’s drill and has been planned for over a year.

The anti-war movement in the US is responding with “protests and other actions over the next two weeks,” according to Iosbaker.

“By more than 2 to 1, the people in the US are against another war and opposed to US military moves or aid to the coup government in Ukraine,” he added.
