The Philippine-American War, 1899–1902

How quickly civilization forgets

UNITED STATES IMPERIALISM
04/25/2014

Before the Philippines were even considered being annexed there were some debate on whether or not to annex them. The people that were for annexing the islands argued that there were business interests in thoughts of new markets and fields of investments, the United States wanted to become an empire and so they wanted to expand more. USA, especially, didn’t want to lose these islands to Japan or Germany.

But some people did argue against annexing the islands.

One of the biggest things that stood out was that the islands were 6,000 miles away from the Pacific Coast. Another reason that people argued against this was that some senators thought that annexation was a violation of American tradition and this lead other people to follow them. Since the senators had power.

There were some problems though with the annexing of the Philippines. One problem was that fact that there were 7,100 islands in the Philippines. The total population of those islands was 7.5 million people. Collectively, the islands consisted of 43 different ethnic groups and 87 different languages. This made it harder to obtain the various islands because of the large amount of people and the vase amount of different languages.

One of the decisive battles of the Spanish-American War took place in the Philippines and set the stage for the Philippine-American War. U.S. Navy Commodore George Dewey defeated the Spanish navy in Manila Bay in May 1898. This defeat hurt Spain. Soon, however, the U.S. was locked in battle with Filipinos seeking national independence.

The Filipino fight for independence had begun before the U.S. arrived. In 1896-97, a group of Filipinos led by Emilio Aguinaldo fought a war for independence, which ended in a truce. Filipino rebels retreated to Hong Kong, and in 1897 Dewey met with Aguinaldo there. Dewey knew that if war with Spain came, the U.S. Navy might need Filipinos as land-based allies. A U.S. war ship took Aguinaldo back to the Philippines in early 1898. Armed struggle resumed, and soon the Filipinos controlled most Spanish centers. By May the Filipino army had surrounded Manila, but the U.S. ordered them to stay out of the capital.

In June 1898 Aguinaldo proclaimed the Republic of the Philippines and asked for U.S. support, but both the U.S. and Spain ignored this proclamation.

By August Spanish forces in Manila had surrendered – to the U.S. In December 1898, the U.S. and Spain signed a treaty and Spain sold Guam, Puerto Rico and the Philippines to the U.S.

As the U.S. announced its annexation, a skirmish erupted between U.S. and Filipino troops; the Philippine Republic declared war to defend its independence.

The Philippine-American War was brutal and prolonged. The Filipino Army, though small and poorly armed, was supported by many islanders. As a result, some U.S. soldiers attacked Filipino troops and civilians alike.

Historians estimate that as many as 220,000 Filipinos died of war-related causes. The island of Luzon lost 1/8 of its population. Though the U.S. soon captured most Philippine towns, it took 63,000 U.S. soldiers three years of jungle warfare to achieve full control of the islands.

At home, Americans debated the war. Those who supported U.S. actions pointed to the Philippines’ value as a coaling station for U.S. ships; and as a springboard for expansion to China.

Some felt the U.S. was duty-bound to educate and “christianize” the islands, not realizing that most Filipinos were already Catholic. Newspapers painted the Filipinos as primitive “savages.” And many Americans came to believe the islanders could not govern themselves or defend themselves against threatening European powers.

I thought it would be a great thing to give a whole lot of freedom to Filipinos, but I guess now that it’s better to let them give it to themselves.  - Anti-Imperialist Mark Twain

Those who opposed the war held meetings, wrote editorials, and sent petitions to Congress. In November 1898 they formed an Anti-Imperialist League, and in three months membership grew to over 100,000. Many League members felt empires were anti-democratic and a violation of the nation’s heritage. Some union leaders argued that overseas empire would only feed the overwhelming power of big business. Industrialist Andrew Carnegie, however, opposed the war for strategic reasons; he believed the U.S. should exercise global economic power but avoid annexing colonies.

We came here to help, not to slaughter, these natives…I cannot see that we are fighting for any principle now.  - Nebraska Soldier

Attitudes about race divided the anti-imperialists. Some opposed annexation because they did not want a “primitive race” to join the U.S. Others, including many African Americans, suggested that U.S. talk of “uplifting” the Filipinos was hypocritical; at home, they argued, the U.S. was not even trying to protect the rights of black citizens.

The League’s fragile coalition eventually came apart. In 1900 the League supported political candidates who opposed annexation, including William Jennings Bryan, the Democratic candidate for President. Bryan ran a hard-fought campaign against incumbent Republican William McKinley and his new vice-president, Rough Rider Theodore Roosevelt. But rising prosperity and patriotic support for U.S. soldiers helped McKinley to victory. Gradually the League faded in power.

U.S., Philippines To Sign 10 - Year Defense Agreement

History repeats itself: Philippine government authorities already making Obama war noises over disputed islands, falsely believing that he will protect them from China just as U.S. did with Japan during WWII

PHILIPPINE INQUIRER
04/28/2014

MANILA, Philippines—

Washington and Manila have reached a 10-year pact that would allow a larger US military presence in the Philippines as it grapples with increasingly tense territorial disputes with China, according to two Philippine officials and a confidential government primer seen by The Associated Press on Sunday.

The Agreement on Enhanced Defense Cooperation, which would give American forces temporary access to selected military camps and allow them to preposition fighter jets and ships, is due to be signed Monday at the Department of Defense, shortly before the arrival of US President Barack Obama, the officials said. Obama’s two-day visit is the last leg of a four-country Asian tour that also took him to Japan, South Korea and Malaysia.

The two officials spoke with AP on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to discuss the details of the pact ahead of its signing.

“Yes, you can say we got what we wanted,” a ranking government official told the Inquirer. “After 10 years, the agreement may be renewed or not renewed,” said the source who likewise requested anonymity. The term of the agreement was one of the contentious points of the deal, the source said.

Defense Secretary Voltaire Gazmin and US Ambassador to the Philippines Philip Goldberg are to sign the agreement at 10 a.m., just a few hours before Obama arrives in the country.

Some Philippine citizens not so quick to forget U.S. past dealings with their country

A Philippine government primer on the defense accord did not indicate how many additional US troops would be deployed “on temporary and rotational basis,” but it said the number would depend on the scale of joint military activities to be held in Philippine camps.

‘Military Occupation’

Militants slammed the agreement, saying it “ushers a new period of military occupation.”

"Mainstream media" has been ignoring anti-Obama protests
“We condemn in the strongest terms the brazen treachery of the Aquino regime which is set to sign tomorrow the US-PH Enhanced Defense Cooperation Agreement, just before the arrival of US president Obama,” said Bayan Secretary General Renato Reyes in a text message on Sunday.

A nationwide protest is set against the defense pact and Obama’s visit in the country. He said the deal is an “obvious gift of a puppet president to his imperialist master.”

“Aquino now gains the distinction of reversing the gains from the rejection of US bases in 1991. He ushers a new period of US military occupation, underscoring our country’s status as a neo-colony. We will fight this new foreign imposition,” Reyes also said.

Hundreds of American military personnel have already been deployed in the southern Philippines since 2002 to provide counterterrorism training and as advisers to Filipino soldiers who have been battling Muslim militants for decades.

The Philippine Constitution bars permanent US military bases. Under the agreement, a Filipino base commander would have access to entire areas to be shared with American forces, according to the primer.

Disagreements over Philippine access to designated US areas within local camps had hampered the negotiations for the agreement last year.

Better Coordination

The agreement would promote better coordination between US and Filipino forces, boost the 120,000-strong Philippine military’s capability to monitor and secure the country’s territory, and respond to natural disasters and other emergencies.

“Prepositioned materiel will allow for timely responses in the event of disasters—natural or otherwise,” the primer said.

The presence of foreign troops is a sensitive issue in the Philippines, a former American colony.

The Philippine Senate voted in 1991 to close down major US bases at Subic and Clark.

However, in 1999, it ratified a pact with the United States allowing temporary visits by American forces.

That paved the way for hundreds of US forces to hold counterterrorism combat exercises with Filipino troops dealing with insurgents in the country’s south.

This time, the focus of the Philippines and its underfunded military has increasingly turned to external threats, as territorial spats with China in the potentially oil- and gas-rich South China Sea (West Philippine Sea) have heated up in recent years. The Philippines has turned to Washington, its longtime defense treaty ally, for help to modernize its Navy and Air Force,
among Asia’s weakest.

Chinese paramilitary ships took effective control of the disputed Scarborough Shoal (Panatag Shoal), a rich fishing ground off the northwestern Philippines, in 2012. Last year, Chinese coast guard ships were deployed to another contested offshore West Philippine Sea territory, Second Thomas Shoal (Ayungin Shoal), where they have been trying to block food supplies and rotation of Filipino marines aboard a grounded Philippine Navy ship in the shallow waters of the remote coral outcrops.

Pivot to Asia

The Philippines’ desire to bolster its territorial defense has dovetailed with Washington’s intention to pivot away from years of heavy military engagement in the Middle East to Asia, partly as a counterweight to China’s rising clout.

Such convergence would work to deter China’s increasingly assertive stance in disputed territories but the question that begs to be answered remains whether Washington would come to the rescue of Manila if its territorial claims over part of the West Philippine Sea escalate into an armed conflict with Beijing.

Obama is to arrive at 1:30 p.m. Monday. Hounding him throughout his trip to Asia is the question on how he would reassure allies of Washington’s support amid China’s expansionism and growing military and economic influence in the region.

It’s the same question that will confront him when he and President Aquino face the media in a joint press conference in Malacañang at 3:25 p.m.

Prior to facing reporters, Obama and Aquino will sit down for an expanded bilateral meeting.

“President Aquino will convey the country’s vision for an enduring and strategic Philippine-US partnership that will be characterized by modern, mature and forward-looking bilateral relations,” Communications Secretary Herminio Coloma said in a radio interview.

He said this would center on “three major fronts: strengthening political and security cooperation, expanding trade and investments, tourism and development cooperation, and deepening people-to-people ties.”

Mutual Defense Pact

Coloma did not say exactly how the new defense agreement with the United States would help the Philippines in its territorial conflict with China.

“Our view is that our good coordination with them will continue and so will their commitment to be one with our country in the aspect of national defense based on the existing treaty,” he said. Coloma was referring to the 1951 Mutual Defense Treaty.

Article 5 of the treaty states that “an armed attack on either of the Parties is deemed to include an armed attack on the metropolitan territory of either of the parties, or on the island territories under its jurisdiction in the Pacific or on its armed forces, public vessels or aircraft in the Pacific.”

“In guarding the West Philippine Sea and our exclusive economic zone, we have to do it on our own,” defense analyst Antonio Custodio told the Inquirer. “We should not expect a blank check from the United States,” he said, pointing to the standoff at Scarborough Shoal in 2012. “We lost Scarborough Shoal to China. Where was the United States?”

Detained “OSCE Monitors” In Eastern Ukraine Turn Out To Be NATO Military Intelligence

Obama's CIA operatives simply do not know when to quit; should be shot as spies as an example

GLOBAL RESEARCH
04/27/2014

People’s mayor of Slavyansk tells about detention of the OSCE monitors: all of them turned out be NATO military intelligence officers accompanied by two officers of the Ukrainian Army High Command.

NATO spies caught red-handed
It was discovered that they were busy collecting and marking locations of all the checkpoints and defense positions of Slavyansk’s self-defense. They also carried explosive cartridges and ammunition.

A pro-Russian insurgency leader in eastern Ukraine said Saturday that foreign military observers detained as suspected NATO spies could be released in exchange for jailed pro-Russian activists.

"The security of the inspectors is wholly entrusted to the host party," the statement said.

Kerry’s Statement On Ukraine : A Lying Brief For War

Drooling doofus, U.S. traitor Kerry will be held responsible for sparking WWIII along with master Obama, Merkel, Hollande, Cameron, Hague, Ashton, Lagarde and the "mainstream media" war criminals that aided and abetted them by printing their ludicrous lies as if there were the truth

WORLD SOCIALIST WEBSITE
By Alex Lantier
04/26/2014

On Thursday, US Secretary of State John Kerry delivered a lying brief for war aimed at justifying the crackdown by the Western-backed Kiev regime on pro-Russian protests in eastern Ukraine and possible military action against Russia. Declaring confrontation with Russia to be all but inevitable, he turned reality on its head, blaming the crisis entirely on Russia and clearing Kiev of all responsibility.

"The simple reality is... I'm lying out my ass."
“The simple reality is you can’t resolve a crisis when only one side is willing to do what is necessary to avoid confrontation,” Kerry declared. Citing the April 17 truce talks in Geneva that halted the Kiev regime’s first attempted crackdown, he said: “One week later, it is clear that only one side, one country, is keeping its word. And for anyone who wants to create gray areas out of black, or find in the fine print crude ways to justify crude actions, let’s get real: the Geneva agreement is not open to interpretation.”

He continued: “The world has rightly judged that Prime Minister Yatsenyuk and the Government of Ukraine are working in good faith. And the world, sadly, has rightly judged that Russia has put its faith in distraction, deception, and destabilization.”

Let us, indeed, get real, Mr. Kerry. These arguments have not a shred of credibility, and neither do you.

Kerry ran unsuccessfully in 2004 as the Democratic Party’s US presidential candidate, posturing as a critic of the Bush administration’s war policy in Iraq, after having voted to authorize the 2003 US invasion. Taking the position of secretary of state under Obama, he became a point man for spreading lies to justify US wars. His speech on August 26 of last year to justify war with Syria was based on the claim that Washington had irrefutable proof that Syrian President Bashar al-Assad’s regime had carried out a poison gas attack in Ghouta.

Kerry, Obama responsible for CIA/FSA gas attacks in Syria
An account by journalist Seymour Hersh, based on intelligence sources, has confirmed numerous reports at the time that it was US-backed opposition forces, seeking to provoke a US attack on Syria that carried out the poison gas attacks in Ghouta.

Hersh, moreover, documented the fact that the Obama administration was well aware that its Islamist “rebels” in Syria had developed and previously used chemical weapons.

Kerry based his argument Thursday, that the unelected regime in Kiev is the victim of a malevolent Russian plot, on the tactic of the Big Lie—calculating that the bigger the lies, the harder they are to refute. He said: “From day one, Prime Minister Yatsenyuk has kept his word. He immediately agreed to help vacate buildings. He suspended Ukraine’s counterterrorism initiative over Easter, choosing de-escalation, despite Ukraine’s legitimate, fundamental right to defend its own territory and its own people.”

Kerry aided, abetted CIA engineered coup in Ukraine
Kerry’s presentation of Yatsenyuk and his Western backers as defenders of Ukraine’s sovereignty is a repugnant falsification. The Yatsenyuk regime was installed in an imperialist regime-change operation, orchestrated and financed by Washington and Berlin, culminating in the February 22 putsch led by the anti-Russian Ukrainian fascists of the Right Sector militia and the Svoboda party.

The putsch disenfranchised eastern Ukraine, the power base of pro-Russian President Viktor Yanukovych and home to Ukraine’s main industrial base and ethnic Russian population. One of the Yatsenyuk regime’s first actions was to threaten to eliminate the status of Russian as an official language. A few weeks after the putsch, a leak emerged of a phone call between Kiev regime security officials and oligarch Yulia Tymoshenko, the leader of Yatsenyuk’s Fatherland Party, in which Tymoshenko called for killing Ukraine’s 8 million Russians with “nuclear weapons.”

Amid rising popular opposition and pro-Russian protests in the east, Yatsenyuk earlier this month ordered the Ukrainian army to mount a “counterterrorism offensive” to drown the protests in blood.

Idiot Kerry can't remember his own lies from day to day
This crackdown fell apart when large sections of the army refused to fire and went over to the protesters. Such was the background to the political fraud of the Geneva talks, where Yatsenyuk and his Western backers eagerly agreed to “suspend” the failing crackdown and “help vacate” buildings occupied by pro-Russian protesters.

For the Western powers, however, the Geneva talks were simply a delaying tactic to prepare the next crackdown, which began this week, relying directly on Ukrainian fascist militias. Right Sector leader Dmytro Yarosh and business oligarch Igor Kolomoysky are now setting up their own battalions in the east, coordinated with officials in Kiev.

Kerry blamed all the violence on Russia, however. “Prior to Russia’s escalation, there was no violence,” he said. “There was no broad-scale assault on the rights of people in the east.”

He continued: “Having failed to postpone Ukraine’s elections, having failed to halt a legitimate political process, Russia has instead chosen an illegitimate course of armed violence to try and achieve with the barrel of a gun and the force of a mob what couldn’t be achieved any other way.”

John Brennan:  Obama's Satanic CIA mass murderer
Shameless hypocrisy and lies. The Kiev regime is the illegitimate result of a forcible, right-wing putsch, which, after visits by CIA chief John Brennan and Vice President Joseph Biden to Kiev, has deployed troops and armored vehicles to shoot down dissidents in the east. (Two months ago, Kerry was justifying the overthrow of Yanukovych on the grounds that he ordered police to suppress anti-government protests on Kiev’s Independence Square).

Western officials have now admitted, moreover, that their spies are crisscrossing Ukraine.

Given these facts, the question of whether or not Russian spies are involved in eastern Ukraine is a red herring.

Kerry co-idiot Biden giving aid and comfort to fascists
The Western powers have no basis for indignation over a Kremlin intervention to defend ethnic Russians against the very real dangers posed by the Kiev puppet regime. They have themselves invaded innumerable countries, including Iraq and Libya, on the pretext of protecting the population from dictatorial regimes.

There is no question that if the roles of the United States and Russia were reversed, Washington would be threatening to intervene against a pro-Russian regime in its neighborhood.

After the 1959 revolution in neighboring Cuba, the United States repeatedly mobilized its military against the pro-Soviet regime, backing the Bay of Pigs invasion in 1961 and threatening war in the Cuban Missile Crisis a year later.

Is there any question that if Russia somehow backed a putsch to install a client regime in Mexico City, which sent the army to crush opposition protests along the US-Mexico border and threatened to annihilate US citizens with nuclear weapons, Washington would intervene?

Kerry running out of ludicrous lies
In any event, Kerry provides no proof, only more lies, to justify his claim that Russian spies are in Ukraine. In his statement Thursday, he insisted, “Nobody should doubt Russia’s hand in this,” but offered only this evidence: “Some of the individual special operations personnel who were active on Russia’s behalf in Chechnya, Georgia and Crimea have been photographed in Slovyansk, Donetsk and Luhansk. Some are even bragging about it on their Russian social media sites. And we’ve seen weapons and gear on the separatists matching those worn and used by Russian Special Forces.”

This refers to the false photo report planted by the US State Department and published by the New York Times last Monday, which was so quickly exposed as a fabrication that even the Times has had to print two articles retracting it.

Kerry nonetheless brazenly repeated these discredited allegations, then denounced Russian media as a “propaganda bullhorn” for the state. As if the New York Times is not? In fact, it is Kerry who enjoys the support of the biggest propaganda apparatus in world history: the American media.

NYT, MSM propagandists will be held accountable for lies
In his remarks, Kerry went on to threaten that the financial pirates who run the Western banking system would organize capital flight and speculation against Russia’s currency, the ruble, in order to destroy Russia’s financial system and economy.

He said, “Some $70 billion has fled the Russian financial system in the first quarter of 2014, more than all of last year.

Meanwhile, the Russian Central Bank has had to spend more than $20 billion to defend the ruble, eroding Russia’s buffers against external shocks. Make no mistake that what I’ve just described is really just a snapshot and is also, regrettably, a preview of how the free world will respond if Russia continues to escalate what they had promised to de-escalate.”

Kerry’s suggestion that the standoff with Moscow cannot be resolved, coupled with the lies and verbal provocations he uses to demonize the Kremlin, must be taken as a warning that the US government is not seeking a resolution to the crisis it has created. It is aggressively pressing ahead. Having installed a far-right regime of oligarchs and fascists in Kiev, it is goading Moscow towards a military intervention in Ukraine with potentially cataclysmic consequences.

Appeal For Release of Military Observers As U.S. Plans to Hit Putin Inner Circle With New Sanctions

CIA/MI6 "observer" spies busted reporting on Russian troop movements with assist from CNN, CIA Al Jazeera, Fox News

BLOOMBERG

The U.S. and European Union will impose new sanctions as early as tomorrow on Russian companies and individuals close to President Vladimir Putin over the escalating crisis in Ukraine, officials said today.

Poland, Germany may soon see T-90's in their streets
Deputy White House National Security Adviser Tony Blinken pledged “news for Monday” on sanctions as the focus on the ground in Ukraine turned to the fate of international observers seized by pro-Russian separatists. One of the 11 captured inspectors was released today, the Russian state-run news service RIA Novosti reported.

The seizure of the inspectors added urgency to the U.S.-EU push for speedy sanctions, already driven by Russian military exercises on Ukraine’s frontiers.

The North Atlantic Treaty Organization says 40,000 Russian troops are near the border. Ukraine’s southern air-defense forces are in “operational readiness,” the country’s defense ministry said today on its website.

CIA "observer" spies busted reporting on troop movements
Among those who may be hit by sanctions is Igor Sechin, the chief executive officer of OAO Rosneft (ROSN), according to people familiar with developments. Sechin is a confidant of the Russian president. “We will be looking to designate people who are in his inner circle, who have a significant impact on the Russian economy,” Blinken said on CBS’s “Face the Nation” program today.

“We’ll be looking to designate companies that they and other inner-circle people control. We’ll be looking at taking steps as well with regard to high-technology exports to their defense industry. All of this together is going to have an impact.”

EU Discussions

Representatives of the 28 European Union nations will also meet tomorrow to widen a list of people subject to asset freezes and travel bans, an official from the bloc said yesterday. The sanctions will target 15 Russians in positions of power, another diplomat said. Both asked not to be identified because of the sensitivity of the matter.

“I have the impression” that the European Union will extend visa bans and asset freezes to “maybe another 15 people” over Russia’s actions in Ukraine, German Deputy Foreign Minister Gernot Erler said in an interview on ZDF television. The EU ministers this week may also discuss economic sanctions on Russia, he said.

‘Threatening’ Maneuvers

Russia has escalated tensions in Ukraine with “threatening” military maneuvers and by “taking no concrete steps” to implement an April 17 accord aimed at calming the crisis, the Group of Seven nations -- the U.S., the U.K., France, Germany, Italy, Canada and Japan -- said in a statement two days ago.

With an assist from G-7 EU may go up in flames of WWIII
“What we will hear about in the coming days is an expansion of existing sanctions, measures against individuals or entities in Russia,” U.K. Foreign Secretary William Hague told Sky News television today. “Already we have seen more than $60 billion of capital flight out of Russia so far this year, and serious falls in the Russian stock market. So no one should underestimate the impact on Russia and Russia’s own interests of continued escalation of this crisis.”

In the wake of those capital outflows and a credit-rating downgrade by Standard & Poor’s, Russia’s central bank unexpectedly raised its key interest rate to 7.5 percent on April 25. The ruble has lost almost 9 percent this year against the dollar, the second-worst performance among 24 emerging currencies tracked by Bloomberg after Argentina’s peso.

Bank Rossiya

Sanctions previously imposed by the U.S., the EU, Canada and other allies were aimed at a number of Putin’s associates and top officials, as well as St. Petersburg-based OAO Bank Rossiya.

Sechin may be among those facing travel bans and asset freezes tomorrow, according to a U.S. official familiar with the situation. Executives at OAO Gazprombank, Russia’s third-largest lender, are preparing for possible sanctions, two people with knowledge of the deliberations said last week, while development lender Vnesheconombank is taking precautionary measures, according to a person familiar with talks at the lender.

U.S. Senator Bob Corker of Tennessee, the top Republican on the Foreign Relations Committee, called on President Barack Obama’s administration to impose sanctions on four of Russia’s largest banks and OAO Gazprom (OGZD), the country’s gas-export monopoly.

‘Shock Waves’

“Hitting four of the largest banks there would send shock waves through the economy,” Corker said on CBS. “I just think we need to hit him much more toughly,” he said of Putin.

Obama attempts to suck ASEAN into his insanity
The allied measures will be coordinated, though penalties from each country won’t necessarily be identical, the U.S. official said.

“It’s going to be more effective if everybody signs on and everybody’s committed,” Obama told a news conference today in Putrajaya, Malaysia.

“We’re going to be in a stronger position to deter Mr. Putin when he sees that the world is unified and the United States and Europe is unified, rather than this is just a U.S.-Russia conflict.”

The planned EU moves are not set to include broader trade, financial and economic measures against Russia, known as “stage three” sanctions. Hague said work on those is continuing.

Slovyansk Talks

Meanwhile, pro-Russian separatists freed one international observer from a group of 11 taken captive two days ago in the eastern Ukrainian city of Slovyansk. Negotiators for the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe left the city following the release of the observer, a Swedish officer who is diabetic, RIA Novosti reported.

MSM shills for Kerry's provocations, calls for WWIII
U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry telephoned Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov yesterday to urge “support without preconditions” for moves to free the observers, the State Department said.

The captured observers included four Germans and citizens of the Czech Republic, Denmark, Poland and Sweden, according to the Vienna-based OSCE, which didn’t comment on today’s reported release.

The OSCE is a 57-nation group including Russia and the U.S. that focuses on conflict prevention and human rights.

A separatist military commander, Igor Strelkov, was cited by the Russian newspaper Komsomolskaya Pravda as saying the group might have been engaged in espionage on behalf of Ukraine’s military under the cover of diplomatic immunity,

‘Treated Well’

Television pictures broadcast from Slovyansk today showed a man identified as Axel Schneider, one of the Germans in the OSCE team, telling reporters he was being ‘treated well under the circumstances” and the monitors were “guests of the mayor” rather than prisoners.

“We do look to Russia to assist with their release and to lobby and persuade and insist to those groups that have held the OSCE monitors that they should be released immediately,” Hague said.

RIA cited Strelkov as saying three officers from Ukraine’s security service, the SBU, had also been seized near Slovyansk and might be swapped for rebels held by Ukraine.

Russia is “undertaking measures” to resolve the situation, the Foreign Ministry in Moscow said in a statement. The Ukrainian government, which hosted the observers, bears full responsibility for their safety, it said.

U.S. Failing To Push Economic Sanctions Against Russia Through EU "Allies"

Obama's fantasy claims that the "world is behind us" becoming glaringly apparent as EU, UK, NATO fascists get a dose of reality from Putin

RT
04/27/2014

The new round of sanctions against Russia, which the EU and the US plan to unveil Monday, will not target the Russian economy. Washington said it won’t use economic sanctions without the EU also signing up to them.

G7 members agreed Friday to roll out a third round of anti-Russian sanctions over the Ukrainian crisis.

But those would be an extension of the previous two rounds of sanctions, which targeted 33 individuals in Russia and Ukraine and a Russian bank, which the Western government deemed responsible for the crisis in Ukraine or close enough to President Vladimir Putin to have leverage on him.

"What we will hear about in the coming days, what we will agree ... is an expansion of existing sanctions, measures against individuals or entities in Russia," UK Foreign Secretary William Hague told Sky News on Sunday.

Now sufficiently provoked by insane Obama and his deployment of U.S. troops to Poland and the Baltic Sea, Putin is ready to shut off gas taps to the EU

The new round will slap travel bans and asset freezes on 15 more people, according to numerous insider reports. But it’s unlikely that they would have any greater effect on Russian policies than the sanctions already in effect. If anything, so far sanctions against the officials have only resulted in mocking calls from Russian MPs, politicians and ordinary citizens to add their names on the blacklists.

As with Hitler, Japan now joins Obama in ASEAN warmongering
Imposing sanctions on some sectors of the Russian economy, which could actually hurt the country, remains an elusive goal for Washington.

At the same time America, whose economic ties with Russia are mediocre at best compared to Europe’s, is unwilling to act alone.

Otherwise, it would appear that there is conflict between Russia and the US, not Russia and the world, a narrative that Washington is struggling to promote.

"We're going to be in a stronger position to deter Mr. Putin when he sees that the world is unified and the United States and Europe is unified rather than this is just a US-Russian conflict," US President Barack Obama told reporters on Sunday.

But Europe has much to lose from imposing economic sanctions on Russia, and Obama said he sees how US-only sanctions won’t work.

Nazi Merkel will see Germany turned into province of Russia
“If we, for example, say that we are not going to allow certain arms sales to Russia, but every European defense contractor backfills what we do, then it’s not very effective,” he said.

With Russia being a major supplier of raw materials and buyer of European goods, the EU governments are far from being eager to shoot themselves in the foot with economic sanctions.

“At the moment there is no consensus among the EU members on which economic measures against Russia would be acceptable, or even if they are needed at all,” a European diplomatic source told Itar-Tass.

Fruitcake frog Hollande will see Paris in flames
The diplomat, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, said only an open military invasion of Ukraine or irrefutable proof of Russian clandestine military presence in Ukraine would tip EU’s stance toward economic sanctions.

So far every piece of evidence that Kiev and Washington made public of alleged involvement of Russian agents in Ukraine was either inconclusive or simply false.

The US and the EU are accusing Russia of stirring up anti-government protest in eastern Ukraine and failing to fulfill its obligations under last week’s Geneva statement.

They want Moscow to publicly denounce the protesters holding governmental buildings in Ukraine in defiance of a military crackdown launched by Kiev.

Clown Cameron will see UK turned into a smoking rock
Russia insists that it is the post-coup Ukrainian government, which is not making necessary steps to deescalate the violence.

Moscow says Kiev must disarm radical nationalist groups, particularly the Right Sector, which toppled the previous Ukrainian government, and start negotiations with the protesters instead of threatening them with tanks and multiple rocket launchers.

If Kiev choses to escalate the crackdown on the protesters by using heavy arms against them Russia says it reserves the right to use its own military to stop bloodshed.

Deadly MERS Virus Spreading Out Of Control In Saudi Arabia, Leaps To Egypt - Possible Global Pandemic

Despite what the medical "experts" say Ribavirin (Copegus) is the ONLY Western pharmaceutical that will slow the replication of "novel" corona viruses and should be used in conjunction with traditional medicine and oxygen, strict quarantine and avoidance of hospitals

"Use every tool you can find -- Western medicine, Eastern medicine, herbal medicine, nutritional therapies, sunlight therapy, etc. Only a fool limits his options to the one single system of medicine that offers zero solutions."

It has long been recognized by intelligent observers that a global superbug pandemic is inevitable. Humanity has created the perfect conditions for it: global nutritional deficiencies, weakened immune systems, high population density, high-speed international travel and systemic abuse of antibiotics by medical professionals.
MERS
Drug-resistant superbugs like MERS (Middle East Respiratory Syndrome) are 100% immune to every conventional medical treatment in existence. There is no antibiotic, no vaccine, no drug and no treatment practiced by western medicine that can stop these bugs... and infections are deadly.
Now we've learned they're spreading out of control in Saudi Arabia, following an explosive pandemic pattern that has infectious disease experts sounding the alarm.

Ian MacKay, an associate professor at the Australia Infectious Diseases Research Centre at The University of Queensland, is now warning about where this might be headed. Over the last 30 days, MERS cases in Saudi Arabia have exploded from just 1-3 per day to over 10 per day, showing a worrisome trend.
"MERS is a particularly nasty disease for those who already have a disease that is chronic," writes Ian MacKay. "These include diabetes, kidney disease, heart disease, hypertension, lung disease, obesity, malignancy and those who smoke or use steroids."
Simple math:  Camels have been around for thousands of years, the MERS virus emerged in 2012:  Bats, witches on brooms - governments, microbiologists, "mainstream media" now using any excuse they can find to avoid naming the real origins of this and other man-made weaponized corona viruses just as they used chickens and pigs (vectors) to blame spread of weaponized H5N1

An alarming 140 cases have been found in April alone, and more MERS cases have been reported so far in 2014 than during the entire year of 2013.

The following chart shows an alarming trend in the cumulative number of MERS infections with a sharp spike in cases being reported in mid-April:

Healthcare Workers Increasingly Infected: 7% Death Rate Reported

According to data analysis by MacKay, healthcare workers are also being infected and an astonishing 7% are dying from those infections. From MacKay's blog:

Healthcare worker (HCW) numbers have risen sharply (see below) during the April outbreak to a total of 84 detections, 7% of whom have died. Deaths (left) among HCWs now represent 1.6% of all MERS-CoV positive deaths. This jump in HCW detections has been fuelled by the Jeddah outbreak but also by the parallel HCW cluster among paramedics in the UAE; two as yet completely unexplained events.
Ludicrous fantasy:  Bats now being blamed for spread of MERS
When healthcare workers are infected, they tend to increase the spread of the disease by inadvertently infecting patients.
This is why hospitals can quickly become extremely dangerous places during any outbreak: it's where you're mostly likely to get infected. Hospitals, in essence, become hubs that spread the disease and multiply the pandemic.
This is exactly what has been observed in Ebola outbreaks, by the way.

MERS Has Now Spread to Egypt

The LA Times is now reporting that MERS has spread from Saudi Arabia to Egypt:

State television said Saturday that the country's first case had been discovered. It said the patient, who was hospitalized in Cairo, had recently traveled to Saudi Arabia, where the virus was first identified.

So now we have the first documented case of MERS crossing borders and becoming an international superbug. It's only a matter of time before visitors to Saudi Arabia carry this superbug to other nations as well.

Western Medicine is Utterly Helpless Against MERS

What's especially alarming about the spread of MERS is that all the tools of western medicine -- drugs, vaccines, surgery -- are completely and utterly useless against MERS and many other superbugs.

So when patients get infected and go to the hospital, those hospitals have nothing to offer them except, perhaps, exposure to other superbugs that are now running rampant across hospitals. Half of all hospital rooms are infected with superbugs, and superbugs are now killing 48,000 patients a year in the USA alone. Deadly superbugs are even sweeping California hospitals and nursing homes.

Western medicine hospitals are beholden to drug company interests, so they refuse to recognize or prescribe treatments that aren't patented by drug companies. This means hospitals will refuse to prescribe herbal treatments that can block MERS infections such as the "Minor Blue Green Dragon" formula which contains a highly effective anti-pandemic ingredient that has been outlawed by the FDA.

Western Medicine Will Kill Millions in The Next Pandemic

As this infection spreads globally, people who rely solely on Western medicine will die en masse, victims of a system of medicine which oppresses and even outlaws competing systems of medicine that offer far more effective solutions for pandemic defense.
Air travel must be suspended in order to contain virus spread
Those who embrace more diverse systems of medicine (such as Traditional Chinese Medicine) will have anti-pandemic remedies readily available. These remedies actually contain powerful medicinal compounds which have been synthesized by plants rather than by laboratories. Anyone who discounts the power of natural herbal medicine is flatly ignorant: as much as 25% of Big Pharma's drugs are originally derived from medicinal plants in the first place (then modified to be patentable).
Statin drugs, for example, were modeled after the natural lovastatins originally discovered in red yeast rice.

As the next global pandemic spreads, western medicine's monopolistic rejection of natural remedies will almost certainly result in the deaths of potentially millions of victims -- people who could have been saved if they had only been told the truth about non-pharmaceutical treatments against infectious respiratory illnesses. It's absolutely criminal that when western medical professionals have literally nothing to offer for a deadly superbug, they simultaneously don't want people to have access to anything else that might work either. Their message? "Go home and die, but don't you dare take herbal medicine because that might be dangerous."

I'm not saying that a person shouldn't use western medicine in a pandemic, by the way. My advice is to use every tool you can find -- western medicine, eastern medicine, herbal medicine, nutritional therapies, sunlight therapy, etc. Only a fool limits his options to the one single system of medicine that offers zero solutions.

We have already discussed in the first part of this analysis how the American geography dooms whoever controls the territory to being a global power, but there are a number of other outcomes that shape what that power will be like. The first and most critical is the impact of that geography on the American mindset.
