CIA Accused Of Spying On Senate Overseers

Obama's CIA murderers illegally target "lawmakers" who will now be forced to act

NATIONAL JOURNAL

The Central Intelligence Agency is under investigation for allegedly spying on the Senate Intelligence Committee, panel Chairwoman Dianne Feinstein confirmed Wednesday.

The CIA is prohibited from spying on Americans, and spying on members of Congress and their staff would raise particular concerns about the separation of powers.

Congress created the House and Senate Intelligence committees in the 1970s to oversee the CIA, the National Security Agency, and other spy agencies after uncovering a slew of spying abuses.

The CIA's internal watchdog, its inspector general, is reviewing whether CIA agents hacked into the computers of Senate staffers who were involved in producing a report critical of the agency's now-defunct detention and interrogation program, The New York Times reported Wednesday. According to McClatchy, the inspector general's office has asked the Justice Department to investigate the case.

The committee worked on the 6,300-page interrogation report for years. The report, which remains classified, concluded that brutal interrogation techniques produced little valuable intelligence. Last June, the CIA responded with its own 122-page report challenging particular facts and the conclusion of the Senate's document. Ending the interrogation program was one of President Obama's first acts in office.

CIA hospitality, Guantanamo style
Sen. Mark Udall, a Colorado Democrat and member of the Intelligence panel, wrote a letter to Obama on Tuesday, urging him to support declassification of the full report. Udall referred vaguely to the CIA's alleged spying on the committee.

"As you are aware, the CIA has recently taken unprecedented action against the Committee in relation to the internal CIA review, and I find these actions to be incredibly troubling for the Committee's oversight responsibilities and for our democracy," Udall wrote. "It is essential that the Committee be able to do its oversight work—consistent with our constitutional principle of the separation of powers—without the CIA posing impediments or obstacles as it is today."

CIA "Black Site" torture
In December, Udall said the committee obtained internal CIA documents that were "consistent with the Intelligence Committee's report" and contradicted the CIA's official response.

According to The New York Times, the CIA believed that the committee may have somehow gained unauthorized access to the agency documents.

The agency began its alleged spying of the committee to investigate how the documents were obtained, according to the news report.
A CIA spokesman declined to comment on the inspector general's probe. Caitlin Hayden, a White House spokewoman, also declined to comment on the investigation or when the president learned of possible spying on the Senate committee.

But she said the White House believes that the "findings and conclusion" of the interrogation report should be declassified, with appropriate redactions.

CIA torture at Abu Ghrahib
Christopher Anders, a legislative counsel for the American Civil Liberties Union, said that if the CIA in fact spied on the Senate Intelligence Committee, it would be an "outrageous violation of separation of powers."

"CIA surveillance of Congress would be another sign that the intelligence community has come to believe that they are above the law, and should get only deference from the other branches of government, not the meaningful oversight that's required by the Constitution," Anders said.

"Checks and balances, especially for agencies like the CIA and NSA that have many secret operations, are essential for democratic government. At the very least, these reports should spur the committee to vote quickly for the declassification and release of its full report into the CIA's torture program so the American people can see what it is that the CIA is so eager to hide."

U.S. traitor, CIA murdering swine John Brennan
The existence of the investigation into CIA spying appears to explain a question that Democratic Sen. Ron Wyden asked CIA Director John Brennan in January. Wyden pressed Brennan on whether a federal law that bans unauthorized hacking into computers applies to the CIA. At the time, Brennan said he was unsure and would have to get back to the senator in writing.

On Wednesday, after news broke of the alleged CIA spying, Wyden released Brennan's letter responding to the question. Brennan said that the anti-hacking law does in fact apply to the CIA, but he noted that the law expressly "does not prohibit any lawful authorized investigative, protective, or intelligence activity."

A United Nations envoy has been chased out of Crimea after being confronted by an angry crowd waving Russian flags.

Ejected, dejected Serry
According to Reuters, Dutch diplomat Robert Serry was stopped by armed men close to the headquarters of a foreign observer mission. He took refuge in a café but was besieged by a crowd chanting "Russia Russia".

Journalists at the scene said Serry was escorted from the café through a crowd of demonstrators, having agreed to leave the region.

ITV’s James Mates witnessed the incident, tweeting:

On Wednesday afternoon, NATO Chief Anders Fogh Rasmussen said that the alliance was suspending meetings with Russia, and putting the "entire co-operation under review".

French Virologists Revive 30,000 - Year-Old Virus Found Deep Beneath Siberian Permafrost

Yet another virus for the weaponizes to engineer into mass killers - as Kawaoka, Fouchier and Ernala-Ginting did with H1N1 and H5N1

GLOBAL POST

Obviously these scientists haven’t watched enough movies.

Pithovirus sibericum
In what we can only suggest is Hollywood foreshadowing come to life in frightening Technicolor, a team of French researchers has revived a 30,000-year-old virus found buried deep beneath Siberian permafrost.

This previously unknown virus — Pithovirus sibericum — is so large it’s viewable through a visible light microscope. It’s the largest ever discovered, BBC reported.

Don’t worry, they say, the resulting infection produced by the virus only affects one-celled amoebas … for now.

OK, that last part was dramatic license, but if you’ve watched any B-movie about aliens or diseases threatening life after eons unseen, you probably have to wonder why these intrepid intellectuals have taken such a drastic action.

Aerial view of ruts from geological survey vehicles
Turns out, this virus is just one more result of climate change, and in all seriousness could one day affect our world.

“The revival of such an ancestral amoeba infecting virus … suggests that the thawing of permafrost either from global warming or industrial exploitation of circumpolar regions might not be exempt from future threats to human or animal health,” lead researcher Jean-Michel Claverie wrote in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.

Why this is making headlines across the globe is the unique nature of this new virus, The New York Times reported.

Area where virus was exhumed

While the common flu virus has 13 genes and measures 100 nanometers across, typical giant viruses are 1,000 times larger.

Can they infect humans? So far, giant viruses haven’t posed much threat.

Yet, Claverie warned that this could be a precursor to greater discoveries that do threaten larger life forms.

What if, he said, an ancient version of small pox or some other dastardly disease is revived as we continue to exploit thawing permafrost?

“If it is true that these viruses survive in the same way those amoeba viruses survive, then smallpox is not eradicated from the planet — only the surface,” Calverie told BBC. “By going deeper we may reactivate the possibility that smallpox could become again a disease of humans in modern times.”

Today In U.S. Hypocrisy : Kerry Slams Russia For Invading Another Country On "Trumped - Up Pretext"

Ludicrous, drooling swift boat traitor adds to definition of "hypocrisy"

GLOBAL POST
By Timothy McGrath

Kerry voted for the Iraq war, which, you'll remember involved 'invading another country on completely trumped-up pretext.'

Maybe US Secretary of State John Kerry has forgotten about the Iraq War.

How else could he appear on "Face the Nation" and, with a straight face, slam Russia for "invading another country on completely trumped-up pretext"? Watch. Go to 00:57 and 02:50 for the money quote, twice repeated.

As a reminder to Kerry (and anyone else): The United States invaded Iraq on March 20, 2003 because the country's leader, Saddam Hussein, almost certainly had "weapons of mass destruction."

In the end, however, the US invasion of Iraq was based on a — how do you say? — "completely trumped-up pretext."

A decade later, and after hundreds of thousands died, we now know the WMDs never existed. Powell said he had been misled.

Kerry can't possibly forget the Iraq war. He voted for it.
And now he's hearing from veterans like Ross Caputi, who fought in Fallujah and notes in a recent open letter to Kerry that the Iraq War "resulted in hundreds of thousands of deaths, millions displaced, permanent environmental contamination, and a new repressive regime that most Iraqis regard as being more brutal than that of Saddam Hussein."

Caputi practically begs Kerry to suspend shipments of Apache helicopters and Hellfire missiles to the Iraqi government, which is now struggling to contain an Al Qaeda threat that before the Iraq War didn't exist.

We have already discussed in the first part of this analysis how the American geography dooms whoever controls the territory to being a global power, but there are a number of other outcomes that shape what that power will be like. The first and most critical is the impact of that geography on the American mindset.
