White House Deputy National Security Advisor Ben Rhodes has called the execution of American journalist James Foley by ISIL militants a “terrorist attack” against the United States.
Foley was beheaded and shown in a video, in which the Takfiri terrorists demanded the US to end its airstrikes.
Rhodes was asked on Thursday by a reporter if he agreed with former CIA deputy director Mike Morell who had said "this is ISIS' first terrorist attack against the United States."
"Well, absolutely," Rhodes said. "When you see somebody killed in such a horrific way, that represents a terrorist attack against our country and against an American citizen."
"Clearly, the brutal execution of Jim Foley represented an affront, an attack, not just on him, but he's an American, and we see that as an attack on our country, when one of our own is killed like that," he added.
"If you come after Americans, we’re going to come after you wherever you are," Rhodes added.
Dozens of US special operations troops reportedly parachuted into Syria earlier this summer but failed to locate Foley and other captives held by ISIL.
An email published by a news website that employed Foley says the ISIL had asked for a hundred million Euros for his release.
But Rhodes said paying ransoms to free hostages is not the right policy. He claimed that Washington would not provide funds for terrorist organisms.
Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel said Thursday that the ISIL poses a "threat beyond anything we've seen."

Obama cowards had better remember THIS |
Hagel and Joint Chiefs of Staff General Martin Dempsey said that the ISIL militants cannot be defeated unless the US or its allies attack them in Syria.
US lawmakers, including Senator John McCain and Senator Bill Nelson, have also pressed for the expansion of the US air campaign to hit ISIL bases in Syria.
The gruesome execution of Foley has drawn an angry, emotional reaction from members of Congress, with some calling on President Obama to redouble the fight against ISIL.
“Seldom is the descriptor ‘evil’ applied with perfect accuracy as it is with this monstrous group,’’ said US Representative Adam B. Schiff, a Democrat from California.
