It’s going to be a difficult Mother’s Day for the mother of one marine, from Weston, who is jailed in Mexico.

Jill Tahmooressi’s son remains
jailed but on Friday, May 9th she got some good news.
Her son, U.S. Marine Sgt. Andrew Tahmooressi, is being transferred to a safer federal prison in Mexico.
Tahmooressi served combat duty in Afghanistan about three years ago.
For the past month and a half he’s been held in Mexican jails on charges of smuggling weapons into the country.
According to his mother, her son told Mexican officials he had gotten lost and accidentally crossed the border into Mexico with all his belongings including three guns in his pick-up truck.
“I got lost. I made a wrong turn. I didn’t want to be here. I have three firearms in the back seat. Let me go back to the border,” said Jill Tahmooressi, reiterating what her son told her.
Those weapons are not legal in Mexico where authorities are fighting a war against drug cartels who get their fire power from the United States.
Supporters organized
a protest on Monday, May 5th in front of the Mexican consulate in Miami. They said Tahmooressi, who tried to escape at least once, was chained to a cot and suffers from post-traumatic stress disorder. They fear he could be hurt or even get killed in a Mexican jail.

On Friday,May 9th Tahmooressi was transferred from the border city of Tijuana to a Mexican federal facility a few miles away.
“I demanded that my son be moved. There was access. He was too vulnerable for that,” said Jill Tahmooressi.
Until his case is heard by Mexican officials, Jill Tahmooressi hopes her son is at least safe for the time being.
“I assured him that this was a good thing and he said yes mom thank you,” said Jill Tahmooressi.
Sgt. Tamooreesi has a hearing scheduled for May 28th. His mother is hoping that’s when he’ll be able to convince a Mexican judge he simply took a wrong turn at the border.
