BREAKING : Malaysia Airlines 777-200 Loses Contact

Search and rescue teams launched

Malaysia Airlines flight MH370 has lost contact with air traffic control and was still missing two hours after it was supposed to have landed in Beijing, the airline said Saturday morning. There are 239 people aboard the Boeing 777-200.

A search-and-rescue mission is currently in progress and relatives of those on board are being notified.

The flight carrying 227 passengers from Kuala Lumpur including 12 crew members and two infants was scheduled to land in Beijing at 6:30 a.m. (5:30 p.m. ET Friday).

In Malaysia Subang Air Traffic Control reported it lost contact with the flight at 2:40 a.m. (1:40 p.m. ET Friday).

Malaysia Airlines announced that it is "coordinating with authorities who have activated their Search and Rescue team to locate the aircraft."
