Beirut Blast : Double Bombing Near Iran Embassy Kills At Least 23, Injures 146 - FIRST VIDEO

Iranian Embassy targeted:  Embassy Cultural Attache among dead

RT
11/19/2013 - 10:04 GMT

Two blasts near the Iranian embassy in Beirut killed at least 23 people, injuring 146 and causing havoc and a massive fire in the Lebanese capital. Six buildings were reportedly destroyed in the embassy compound.

According to a local news source, Almanar News, the harrowing scene was caused by 100kg of TNT loaded into a Renault Rapid. Security sources on the ground said there were two blasts - the first caused by a person on a motorbike, while the second was by a suicide bomber who tried to ram the compound with the car.

Witnesses at the scene reported that they occurred within one or two minutes of each other.

Injured people and destroyed buildings were seen on very disturbing pictures circulated by Lebanese media in the immediate aftermath.

Witnesses speaking to Al Arabiya reported seeing smoke rising from the battered embassy compound, while footage from the bloody scene showed raging fires, with the death toll rising by the minute.

It is not clear who was behind the attack at this time, but the area where the blasts occurred is significant in two ways: it is considered to be a stronghold for the Lebanese Shiite faction, Hezbollah. And secondly, it is a popular area and a home to many families of Iranian diplomats working in Lebanon.

The Iranian ambassador to Lebanon reacted promptly to the situation, placing blame on a "Zionist entity," while adding that such attacks only "keep us strong and proves the righteousness of our stances."

Minutes before it was reported that the Iranian cultural adviser for Lebanon was injured in the blast, but shortly thereafter succumbed to his injuries.

Lebanon and Iran enjoy close relations, both having a large Shiite population.

This is not the first attack that has occurred in the area. Hezbollah compounds have come under frequent fire before, especially as Sunni-on-Shia tensions have begun to mirror each other across the Middle East.

The political connection – if any – has not been established yet. However, while an ally of Iran, Hezbollah is also a strong supporter of neighboring Syria’s President Bashar Assad, who is currently fighting his own terrorist threat.

Political bombings in Lebanon are a frequent occurrence. One of the more severe recent ones took place in late August, when 42 people lost their lives, while literally hundreds were injured in twin explosions in the city of Tripoli.

Similarly, a blast near Hezbollah’s headquarters just days before, on August 15, killed 27 people, injuring 150.

Sunni radicals claimed responsibility.

In June, the same location was targeted, when a car bomb blast injured 53 people.

BREAKING: UPDATE : Iran Embassy Targeted In Beirut Blast

23 reported dead, over 145 wounded; CIA owned and operated Al Jazeera already blaming Syria, Hezbollah - confirmed reports Iran Embassy Cultural Attache killed; Iran blames Israel

BBC
11/19/2013

Seven people have been reported killed as explosions struck near the Iranian embassy in the Lebanese capital Beirut.

Two suicide bombers reported responsible
Conflicting reports say the blasts could have come from rockets or a car bomb. Several buildings were damaged, eyewitnesses said.

Iran is a major backer of the Lebanaese Shia militant group Hezbollah, which has sent fighters to Syria to back the government of Bashar al-Assad.

The conflict in Syria has worsened sectarian tensions in Lebanon.

The area around the Iranian embassy, in south Beirut, is considered a Hezbollah stronghold.

On 15 August, 16 people were killed in a blast in south Beirut.

Hezbollah fighters were instrumental in a strategic victory by Syrian government forces in Qusair, close to the border with Lebanon, in early June.

ALBAWABA  NEWS
11/19/2013 - 08:09 GMT

At least seven people were killed following a car bomb near the Iranian embassy in Beirut on Tuesday, an Al Arabiya correspondent reported.

Residents reported a loud blast being heard, while local Lebanese media broadcast live images of smoke billowing from the embassy building.Harrowing pictures of wounded people being carried from the scene of the blast were also broadcast.

A security source speaking to Reuters news agency denied earlier reports that the explosion was caused by rockets, saying the cause was a car bomb.

The Iranian ambassador is reportedly unharmed.

The blast occurred in an area considered a stronghold of the Lebanese Shiite movement Hezbollah.

On Iran, Saudi Arabia And The Centennial Of The Federal Reserve

Obama criminal regime continues global meddling as U.S. ready to burst into flames of social upheaval

Strategic Culture Foundation
By Valentin Katasonov

Recently there has been much discussion in the media about the apparent diplomatic rapprochement between the U.S. and Iran and the simultaneous worsening of relations between the U.S. and Saudi Arabia. And increasingly frequent mention is being made of the 1913 creation of the U.S. Federal Reserve System; December will mark its 100th anniversary. In my opinion, the coincidence of recent events in the Middle East and the upcoming centennial of the Federal Reserve is very symbolic.

Please click to enlarge map
Without examining the full range of causes of the nascent thaw in relations between Washington and Tehran, I will attempt to explain the financial and monetary side of these events. American-Iranian relations after World War II were extremely close and friendly. However, after the 1979 overthrow of the Shah, who pursued a pro-American course, everything changed. Over the course of recent decades, American-Iranian relations have been at best strained, and often overtly hostile. Until recently Washington has tried to bring Tehran under its control using, among other things, economic and financial sanctions

Over the past decade sanctions have been introduced in the name of opposing the Iranian nuclear program, which is supposedly aimed at creating a nuclear weapon. Iran has been existing in the conditions of American economic sanctions for many years. They do, of course, make life difficult for the Islamic Republic, but it has to some extent learned to adapt to these conditions. A key aspect of the unilateral sanctions imposed by Washington is blocking Iran's transactions with other countries in U.S. dollars; since all large transactions are non-cash, they go through the American banking system.

Obama planned to invade Iran militarily to save his regime
Tehran's reaction to this sanction was to switch to using primarily the euro in transactions for shipments of its oil and other goods. In response Washington clamped down even further by pressuring its allies in Europe. First, it demanded that they stop buying Iranian oil. Second, it demanded that European banks be prohibited from handling transactions in euros with Iran. Washington's European allies to a significant degree gave in to U.S. demands. Iran's reaction was to reorient its oil exports on other countries, first and foremost India and China. And they began conducting transactions not in dollars or euros, but in rupees and yuans. At the same time Iran started using gold in trade with Turkey and some other countries. They also remembered a tried and true kind of trade that enabled them to do without currency: barter.

Putin and Edward Snowden put the kibosh on Obama's plans
Washington suddenly realized that in imposing sanctions on Iran, it was cutting off its nose to spite its face. Sanctions against the IRI caused Iran and its trade partners to stop using the U.S. dollar in their foreign trade transactions. Washington's sanctions mainly helped its geopolitical rival, China, or its currency, the yuan, to be more exact.

Washington wanted to resolve this new problem through force by conducting a quick and victorious war against Syria, and then deal with Iran using military methods. However, Washington's military plan was wiped out in September of this year (mainly thanks to Russia's firm and consistent position). To give Washington its due, it showed great flexibility and mobility in this situation; it went from confrontation with Tehran to rapprochement. Here it must be emphasized that all the talk about Iran's nuclear program are to a great extent only a cover for Washington's true goals. Its true goals boil down to an attempt to effectively control the Middle Eastern region. Iran is a key state in this region.

Several years ago the desire to control the Middle Eastern geopolitical space was mainly dictated by reasons connected with oil and natural gas. Today, what with the "shale revolution", energy concerns have gone by the wayside for Washington, while financial concerns have come to the foreground. Washington is trying to preserve the petrodollar standard, which has been in existence for almost forty years. The foundation for the petrodollar standard was laid right there in the Middle East, when Saudi Arabia and other countries in the region signed special agreements with Washington in the 1970s in accordance with which they were to sell hydrocarbons exclusively for U.S. dollars. Today not all countries abide by these agreements, but Tehran began to behave especially provocatively when it began selling oil for yuans, rupees and other national currencies besides U.S. dollars and euros; exchanging oil for gold; and using barter arrangements.

When it started an active dialog with Tehran, Washington ran up against a sharp negative reaction from Riyadh. I would like to point out some possible consequences of this conflict. Saudi Arabia could very soon end up in the same situation as Iran was in the past: sanctions could be imposed against Riyadh. One can anticipate Riyadh's reaction in this case; it will try to avoid transactions in U.S. dollars by switching to other currencies. It may also use such time-tested instruments as gold and barter. The next move will be Washington's, and it will be a forceful one. Washington will try to gain control over Riyadh by military means and force it to abide by the forty-year-old agreement (conduct transactions exclusively in U.S. dollars).

The U.S. has become a hostage of its own involvement in Middle Eastern affairs; in trying to pull one foot out of the swamp (reestablishing relations with Iran), it has found that the other foot has gotten bogged down (relations with Saudi Arabia have become more complicated). And it is unknown whether the Americans will be able to achieve the main goal for the sake of which they started the rapprochement with Iran, that is, whether Tehran will go back to using the American dollar for its international transactions instead of the yuan and the rupee. That is unlikely. Tehran will temporize, but wild horses couldn't drag them back into the dollar system.

The once-solid Middle Eastern foundation of the petrodollar standard is turning into a quaking bog before our very eyes... Events in the Middle East are an indicator that the U.S. dollar is in its death throes. It is worth noting that all this is taking place on the eve of the 100th anniversary of the creation of the Federal Reserve System. If the dollar collapses, the Fed's printing press will become worthless junk. Nothing will be left of the Federal Reserve but a facade. It cannot be ruled out that the Fed will not survive long after its centennial, and it could be from the Middle East that its demise will come.

Israel’s Mossad And Saudi Arabia Plan To Attack Iran

Panicked Saudi apostates now lick the boots of Zionist masters as they face extinction

RT VIA GLOBAL RESEARCH
11/17/2013

Israel’s Mossad, along with Saudi officials, is working on contingency plans that could include an attack on Iran if its nuclear program is not curbed enough during the negotiations in Geneva this week, a new report has revealed.

Both powers have expressed concern that restrictions on Iran’s nuclear program will not be enough. According to The Sunday Times newspaper, Saudi Arabia already gave Israel the green light to use its airspace in the case of an attack on Iran.

It was also revealed that the Saudis were willing to assist an Israeli attack by cooperating with the use of drones, rescue helicopters, and tanker planes. “Once the Geneva agreement is signed, the military option will be back on the table. The Saudis are furious and are willing to give Israel all the help it needs,”an unnamed diplomatic source told the paper.

Saudi apostates panic at thought of losing  booze, dope, whores
Tehran has been negotiating sanction relief in Geneva with the P5+1 countries – consisting of the US, Britain, France, Germany, Russia, and China – in exchange for assurances that it will not develop a nuclear weapon. Exact terms on offer from both sides have not been made public, but no agreement was made last weekend. The sides will sit down for a new round of talks on November 20.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has warned that lifting sanctions on Iran without demanding sufficient concessions in return will only encourage Tehran on its path to nuclear armament and lead to future conflict.

Israel has been lobbying hard against appeasement, with Netanyahu himself claiming that Iran is about to clinch “the deal of the century.”

Netanyahu, Obama, Saudis plan sneak-attack on Iran
On Saturday, Netanyahu spoke to French daily Le Figaro about the situation, stating that Israel and the “leading states in the Arab world” agree when it comes to Tehran and its nuclear capabilities.

“We all think that Iran should not be allowed to have the capacities to make nuclear weapons,” he said.“We all think that a tougher stance should be taken by the international community. We all believe that if Iran were to have nuclear weapons, this could lead to a nuclear arms race in the Middle East, making the Middle East a nuclear tinderbox.”

Israel, Saudi Arabia will be turned into parking lots by Iran
The prime minister’s comments were made just before French President Francois Hollande was scheduled to arrive in Israel for talks on Iran on Sunday.

French objections reportedly caused an obstacle in the Iran talks last weekend.

An attack would be an ‘economic catastrophe’

Iranian political analyst Seyed Mohammad Marandi told RT that an imminent joint attack on Iran was unlikely given the serious ramifications it could provoke for the region. “It is highly unlikely that the Saudis and Israelis would want to attack Iran because at the end of the day both countries would be losers, they would be seen as aggressors and obviously the Iranians would retaliate,” Marandi told RT.

Although he consented that the Saudis and Israelis have been moving closer together lately, neither of them stood to gain from attacking Iran.

“It would create an economic catastrophe for the world and only the Saudis and the Israelis would be to blame,” said Marandi.

Indonesia Recalls Ambassador To Australia Over Spying Claim

ASIS, NSA busted by Snowden

Indonesia has recalled its ambassador to Australia amid fury in Jakarta over revelations that Australian spies tried to tap the phones of the Indonesian President and his wife.

Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono
The position of the Australian ambassador, Greg Moriarty, and diplomatic staff in Jakarta will also be ''reviewed'' as President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono ordered his own security agency to investigate the revelations.

Mr Moriarty was called in to Indonesia's foreign affairs department on Monday to answer questions. Jakarta's review would include all co-operation between the two countries, an Indonesian government statement released on Monday night said.

A spokesman for Prime Minister Tony Abbott declined to comment on the ambassador's recall.

The furore erupted after whistleblower Edward Snowden released documents revealing that in 2009 Australia's Defence Signals Directorate targeted the personal mobile numbers of Dr Yudhoyono and his wife, Kristiani Herawati, as well as eight others in the President's inner circle.

American patriot Edward Snowden
His spokesman, Teuku Faizasyah, called on Australia to urgently ''clarify this news to avoid further damage. The damage has been done and now trust must be rebuilt."

Dr Yudhoyono's special adviser for political affairs, Daniel Sparringa, said the spying revelations had ''devastated'' the President.

''Until today, President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono has always paid special attention toward the deepening of the two countries' relations. Therefore the news has devastated us,'' he said.

Mr Sparringa said if immediate action was not taken by Australia, ''it will continue to impede'' ties.

Prime Minister Tony Abbott declined to comment on the revelations but defended information-gathering in principle while reiterating that the relationship with Indonesia was "all in all our most important".

ASIS/NSA/CIA stooge Tony Abbot
''All governments gather information … and all governments know that every other government gathers information,'' he said.

However, Australia used information to ''help our friends and our allies, not to harm them'', Mr Abbott said.

''My first duty is to protect Australia and to advance our national interest and I will never, ever depart from that. Consistent with that duty, I will never say or do anything that might damage the strong relationship and the close co-operation that we have with Indonesia."

The revelations will stoke tensions between the two nations, already simmering over boat turn-backs and Indonesia's dissatisfaction with Australia's explanation on earlier spying revelations.

It is believed that Dr Yudhoyono has called together his closest advisers to discuss the allegations and an appropriate response as furious senior members of Indonesia's parliament pressed him to take a firm line. The President has ordered the State Intelligence Agency to find out which Indonesian officials are currently the subject of phone-tapping.

A deputy chairman of the parliament's foreign affairs committee, Tubagus Hasanuddin, said Australia had "crossed the line".

The revelations were contained in documents leaked by Snowden and revealed by the ABC and the Guardian Australia website on Monday.

AU, U.S. seek to destabilize Indonesia; return to colonialist rule
The phones of the President, his wife - who is known universally as Ibu Ani - Vice-President Boediono, former vice-president Yusuf Kalla and Dr Yudhoyono's foreign affairs spokesman, Dino Patti Djalal, were all targeted, as were a number of senior ministers.

Mr Dino, until recently Indonesia's ambassador to Washington, Yusuf Kalla and another spying victim, Hatta Rajasa, all have presidential ambitions in elections next year. Another minister on the list, though, Andi Mallarengeng, has been detained by the country's anti-corruption commission.

The documents reportedly reveal that Australia attempted to listen to Dr Yudhoyono's personal phone calls on at least one occasion in 2009.

The material comes in the form of a slide presentation. One slide entitled ''IA Leadership Targets + Handsets'' bears the names of the top political figures, the types of phones they own and the network they use - which in all cases is 3G.

The slide's footer bears an Australian Defence Department slogan: ''Reveal their secrets - Protect our own.''

Another slide is titled ''Indonesian President Voice Events'' and has a graphic of calls from Dr Yudhoyono's Nokia phone over 15 days in November 2009.

Mr Dino told ABC's 7.30 that he felt "very violated" by the tapping.

Mr Hatta, who was the state secretary at the time, said he was concerned because, at the time, he was discussing "state secrets which were certainly not for public consumption, let alone for another country's".

And former vice-president Yusuf Kalla said "there must have been sensitive information" discussed, but said at the time the two countries had "a good relationship".

Obama as stupid as poodle Abbot
The deputy speaker of the Indonesian parliament, Budi Priyo Santoso, said there was great anger among MPs.

"I'm deeply disappointed and upset … why would they use this kind of thing if they try to conduct their diplomacy to a high moral standard? We need clarification, otherwise it will affect our bilateral relationship … already many MPs have expressed their anger at this, it's becoming a very hot discussion," he said.

Another senior MP, Mr Tubagus, said Dr Yudhoyono must react strongly. "Give Australia a timeframe to provide an explanation. If not, return the Australian ambassador to his country until Indonesia gets an explanation."

The bugging of Ibu Ani would not appear simply to be an attempt to extract personal information about the President, but to have an ear to one of the most important policy relationships in Indonesia.

CIA spies now exposed in Indonesia
In a 2007 WikiLeaks cable, Ibu Ani was named by US diplomats as the country's ''cabinet of one'', and sources in Jakarta's political elite have described her as having a ''gatekeeper role'' to the President.

Tensions are already high between Australia and Indonesia over surveillance after Fairfax Media reported recently that the Australian embassy in Jakarta was being used to house electronic spying equipment.

Greens senator Scott Ludlam has called for an immediate inquiry, saying that Australian intelligence-gathering along with the US surveillance program was out of control.

Former foreign minister Alexander Downer said the revelations were damaging to Australia. ''It's a shocking situation,'' he said.
