The Great California Unemployment Benefits Heist

Banks caught red-handed stealing money from California Unemployment Benefits; government officials do nothing

Civilians News

Banks steal millions every month from California unemployment benefits. Recent estimates claim there are now over 100,000 homeless Americans living in Los Angeles, California. Of California’s massive homeless population, 12-15 thousand are thought to be under the age of 19 years old. Due to these inequities, in a state known for lavish lifestyles of the rich and famous, government assistance programs are in place to support poverty stricken citizens who struggle to acquire even the most basic of human necessities. Nevertheless, recent reports have discovered banks steal millions from California unemployment benefits, through modern conventions, depleting a great deal of American benefits which otherwise might help jump start the American economy and spur job growth.

California unemployment benefits are issued on “EBT cards,” for Americans who require assistance. EBT cards operate similar to a debit card. The biweekly deposit is based on how much money a recipient was making before becoming unemployed.

Sadly this dependance on issuing the assistance through ATM style cards has created an opportunity for greedy financial executives to slither in between taxpayers and America’s poor. Banks steal millions every month through various methods afforded to them by the very executives who established the California welfare system and systematically afforded banks the opportunity to get a cut of California unemployment benefits.

Economy News:

2,123,000 Californians are unemployed, 494,752 of them are receiving California unemployment benefits. Banking executives saw this as an opportunity to create profits for their private financial institutions. The card system, although modern and relatively cheap on taxpayers (in terms of distribution methods), has given banks a loophole that allows them to skim millions of the top of California unemployment benefits.

EBT Cards can be used at a variety of locations, including fast food restaurants, gas stations, grocery stores and ATMs. If a recipient attempts to withdrawal money from a non Bank of America ATM, they are charged a fee.

The state depends on Affiliated Computer Services, or ACS, a private company which handles all transactions for California unemployment benefits. ACS executives claim they are doing the right thing because the cards are relatively inexpensive, in terms of distributing the hundreds of millions of dollars in benefits each month. However suspicions have recently aroused linking ACS executives to banking executives, banking executives who have reportedly long been thirsty for a cut of the welfare pie. In fact Civilians News has discovered that ACS Vice President, Marvin Owen, actually has several ties to some of Americas largest banking institutions. Is this the method for which banks steal money from Americas poor, in just another of Americas corrupt circles of money?

Marvin Owen, Vice President of ACS, the company which issues California unemployment benefits on EBT cards, actually works for several major banking corporations while simultaneously handling hundreds of millions in California tax revenue. On Marvin Owen’s LinkedIn account, he acknowledges that he works for both ACS, while simultaneously working for Hyperion Solutions and RD&E Finance, corporate banking entities. Banks steal money in the form of overdraft fees, ATM fees, interest and other variations, however until now it was not common for the banking theft to go all the way to America’s poor. Fees which generate no good for the American economy, are drying up jobs everywhere and continuing record long recession.

Banks Stealing Money From Americans Through Corporations

Marvin Owen is a greedy corporate executive who clearly has allowed banks to suck a share of California unemployment benefits through ATM fees. Action must be taken to ensure banks can no longer steal money from America’s poor. People living on such poverty stricken budgets, must receive the full extent of what the state can currently provide, particularly as budgets grow increasingly tight. Any system which will allow a bank to steal money from a poverty stricken America should be protested and boycotted.

Whether California must increase taxes on banks caught charging welfare recipients excessive ATM fees, or whether the national government must further regulate similar banking practices altogether, Americans can not stand for banks which take money from Americans. Banks taking money and inherently not returning any good or service at all for society, is the very drain which must be plugged in the American economy.

Four years ago ACS won a bid for distributing California unemployment benefits. Before ACS, JP Morgan, another corporate bank, infamous for corruption, handled the task. At what point do Americans open their eyes to injustice, no different than theft, when banking industries monopolize the means to acquire money, even welfare money? The amount of tax money banks have made because of this practice in California alone, is estimated over 150 million. America can not afford to pay that price anymore, especially for banks which are simply stealing money from both sides. Banks steal… America can not afford it any longer.

Video shows pepper spraying of UC Davis protesters

Pigs on wrong team, wrong side of history; risk massive retaliation from pissed-off public

Associated Press

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) —

Video of a tense standoff between police and Occupy demonstrators at the University of California, Davis shows an officer using pepper spray on a group of protesters who appear to be sitting passively on the ground with their arms interlocked.

The video — posted on YouTube — was shot Friday as police moved in on more than a dozen tents erected on campus and arrested 10 people, nine of them students.

Un-fucking believable
In the video, the officer displays a bottle before spraying its contents on the seated protesters in a sweeping motion while walking back and forth. Most of the protesters have their heads down, but at least one is hit in the face.

Some members of a crowd gathered at the scene scream and cry out. The crowd then chants, "Shame on You," as the protesters on the ground are led away. The officers retreat minutes later with helmets on and batons drawn.

It's not clear from the video what agency the officer who used the pepper spray represents. Officers from UC Davis and other UC campuses as well as the city of Davis responded to the protest, according to Annette Spicuzza, UC Davis police chief. Davis is about 80 miles north of San Francisco.

This pig will be looking over his shoulder the rest of his life
Karen Nikos, a university spokeswoman, told The Associated Press that she expects to have comment on the incident later Saturday morning.

Spicuzza told the Sacramento Bee (http://bit.ly/sKoP5T) that police used the pepper spray after they were surrounded. Protesters were warned repeatedly beforehand that force would be used if they didn't move, she said.

"There was no way out of that circle," Spicuzza said. "They were cutting the officers off from their support. It's a very volatile situation."

The tents went up on Thursday, and protesters were apparently warned on Friday morning that they had until 3 p.m. to take them down or they would be removed.

OPINION: Thin Veneer Of Civilization Is Starting To Disappear

U.S. nation of illiterate sheep; refuse to fight for rights, homes, kids lives

OPINION

In order for a society to function, there has to be a certain level of trust.  Each day when we leave our homes, we take for granted that most people are not going to attack us for no reason, that there will only be isolated incidents of theft in our community and that rioting and violence are not going to erupt in the streets.   Whether we realize it or not, we depend on the fact that the vast majority of the people around us are going to act in a civilized manner.  Unfortunately, the thin veneer of civilization that we all take for granted is starting to disappear.  When I was growing up, I was taught that challenging times reveal our true character.  There are many that believe that the declining economy is causing a lot of the chaos that we are now witnessing, but perhaps what is going on is that these challenging economic times are simply revealing the character that has been there all along.  For decades, a “false prosperity” that was fueled by unprecedented amounts of debt has masked a lot of the internal rot that has taken hold in America.  But now that our prosperity is crumbling, our lack of values is becoming startlingly clear.

Tent Camp, California
Greed, corruption and extreme self-centeredness have deeply infected our society.  We see this on Wall Street and in Congress, and we see this among those that are trying to survive on the mean streets of our largest cities.

Our nation is breaking down on every level.  If by some miracle we were able to fix our economy, that would mask our problems for a while, but it would not solve them.

Unfortunately, as I write about nearly every day, there are a whole host of indications that our economy is about to get even worse.  When it does, millions of Americans will become even more desperate, and as we are now seeing all over this country, desperate people do desperate things.

The following are 22 signs that the thin veneer of civilization that we all take for granted is starting to disappear….

#1 In Detroit, 100 bus drivers recently refused to drive their routes out of fear for their own personal safety.  An article posted on the website of the CBS affiliate in Detroit is quoting the head of the bus drivers union, Henry Gaffney, as saying that the drivers are “scared for their lives”….
“Our drivers are scared, they’re scared for their lives. This has been an ongoing situation about security. I think yesterday kind of just topped it off, when one of my drivers was beat up by some teenagers down in the middle of Rosa Parks and it took the police almost 30 minutes to get there, in downtown Detroit,” said Gaffney.
#2 In Wilmington, Delaware recently, a man offered to help someone carry a television down the street, but quickly realized that it was his own television which had just been stolen out of his house….
A Wilmington resident who stopped home for lunch about noon today saw a man carrying a flat screen TV down the street and asked the man if he needed help.
He then recognized the television as his own, looked up and saw the door to his home ajar, said Master Sgt. Adam Ringle.
#3 Shocking video has surfaced of a young thug walking up to a defenseless elderly man in a Chicago subway station and knocking him out cold.  In the video, the friends of the young man are cheering him on and laughing at how easy it was to knock the old man out cold.

#4 Beating up old people for no reason seems to be catching on all over the country.  Just check out the following report from a recent article posted on philly.com….
AN 84-YEAR-OLD ex-university official savagely attacked by four young punks during a walk in Wissahickon Valley Park earlier this week theorizes that the beating he endured was a cruel game of “get the old geezer.”
Jim Shea, a former vice president of university relations for Temple, from 1968 to 1983, walks up to five miles on Forbidden Drive, in Fairmount Park, three times a week, but that type of stamina wasn’t enough to stave off the lowlifes who not only beat him bloody, but dealt a blow to one of the things he holds most dear – his pride.
#5 All over the United States, police are wailing on Occupy Wall Street protesters with clubs and liberally using pepper spray on them.  Whatever you may think of the Occupy Wall Street protests, the reality is that this is not a sign that things are becoming “more stable” in America.  You can see video of one very disturbing confrontation right here.

#6 Clashes between police and protesters in Oakland, California recently became so violent that at one point the streets of Oakland resembled a war zone.

#7 Unfortunately, as the American people become increasingly frustrated with out system many of them are actually starting to consider violence as a solution.  According to one recent survey, 31 percent of all Occupy Wall Street protesters “would support violence to advance their agenda”.

#8 In New York recently, a confrontation between two female customers and a frustrated cashier ended with the cashier beating the living daylights out of them with a metal rod.  The following is how a local CBS affiliate in New York described this incident….
It appeared to have started when two female customers argued and yelled obscenities at the cashier when he questioned a $50 bill they gave him.
One of the female customers then slapped the cashier. A woman is then seen jumping over the counter while the other woman goes behind the register.
That’s when the cashier can be seen on the video disappearing into the back of the fast-food restaurant. He comes back with a metal rod and begins hitting the women.
You can see video of this violent confrontation right here.

#9 These days, many Americans are so “on edge” that just about anything will make them snap.  For example, a 60-year-old woman in New Mexico recently repeatedly stabbed her boyfriend because she thought that he was cheating during a game of Monopoly.

#10 If you thought that the above example was crazy, just check out what one man down in Georgia did recently.  He actually firebombed a Taco Bell because they did not put enough meat in his Chalupa.

#11 In Cleveland last week, a 49-year-old man was sent to the hospital after a poll monitor working for the Cuyahoga County Board of Elections tried to bite his nose off.

#12 Not only do TSA agents make us feel like dehumanized cattle as we go through airport security, some of them are evening making fun of us at the same time.  For example, one TSA agent recently scribbled “GET YOUR FREAK ON GIRL” on a TSA inspection notice after discovering a sex toy in the luggage of one female traveler.

#13 Identity theft is rising to very alarming levels all over the United States.  For example, a recent article in the Palm Beach Post described what has been going on down in Florida this year….
In the first half of this year, the Federal Trade Commission received more than 20,000 complaints from Floridians whose identities had been stolen — nearly as many as in all of 2010. More than half of those reporting their Social Security numbers or other personal information had been ripped off and used to commit fraud or theft were in South Florida, with heavy concentrations in parts of Fort Lauderdale, Hollywood and Hallandale Beach.
“That kind of increase is really shocking,” said Vance Luce, deputy special agent in charge of the U.S. Secret Service in South Florida, which investigates identity theft and financial crimes. “The fact that it’s on the upturn doesn’t surprise me at all, but that’s pretty alarming.”
#14 In the Seattle area, an elderly couple in their eighties was recently brutally attacked by a 31-year-old man armed with a crossbow and a hatchet.  The following description of this brutal crime comes from King 5 News….
Prosecutors say 31-year-old John Chase was walking down the highway when he saw Ralph Aldrich, 88, in his back yard. Detectives say Chase shot and killed Aldrich with a crossbow and then went inside the home and repeatedly hit 83-year-old June Aldrich with a hatchet.
#15 As America falls apart, more of us than ever are taking medication for depression.  At this point, more than 1 out of every 10 Americans over the age of 12 is taking prescription antidepressants.

#16 In some areas of the country, people have been literally tearing apart their own cities in an attempt to find things to sell.  I recently discussed this phenomenon on The American Dream Blog….
In Fresno, California the damage caused by thieves stealing copper wire from city street lights is costing the city about $50,000 a month.  So far, about 2,500 street lights have been stripped of their wiring.
#17 As people become more desperate, we are starting to see some truly bizarre crimes in many parts of the nation.  In northern Alabama, one team of crooks has been using a forklift to pull entire ATM machines out of the ground.

#18 Most Americans don’t realize this, but all over the U.S. livestock is being stolen from ranchers in unprecedented numbers.  The following is from a recent Associated Press article….
While the brazenness may be unusual, the theft isn’t. High beef prices have made cattle attractive as a quick score for people struggling in the sluggish economy, and other livestock are being taken too. Six thousand lambs were stolen from a feedlot in Texas, and nearly 1,000 hogs have been stolen in recent weeks from farms in Iowa and Minnesota. The thefts add up to millions of dollars in losses for U.S. ranches.
Authorities say today’s thieves are sophisticated compared to the horseback bandits of the rugged Old West. They pull up livestock trailers in the middle of the night and know how to coax the animals inside. Investigators suspect it’s then a quick trip across state lines to sell the animals at auction barns.
#19 At this point, thieves are becoming so bold that they will steal literally anything that they are able to cart away.  For example, in the San Francisco area a while back thieves actually stole a copper bell that weighs 2.7 tons.

#20 According to the FBI, the number of gang members in the United States has increased by a staggering 40 percent since 2009.  Right now, there are 1.4 million gang members terrorizing citizens on the streets of America.

#21 Down in Miami, thieves have become so bold that they have actually been breaking into parked police cruisers and stealing guns and ammo out of them.  Many of those guns undoubtedly are ending up in the hands of gangs members.

#22 Be careful who you befriend online.  They might just hold you captive and use you as part of a Satanic sex ritual.  The following description of an incident that recently happened in Milwaukee comes from  thesmokinggun.com….
Two young Milwaukee women were arrested this week after an 18-year-old Arizona man–who traveled to Wisconsin by bus after meeting one of the suspects online–told cops that he was held captive in the duo’s apartment for two days and slashed and stabbed more than 300 times as part of an apparent satanic sex ritual.
Anger and frustration are growing to unprecedented levels in this country, and all of this anger and frustration is manifesting in thousands of different ways.

As I have written about previously, the rioting, the crime and the violence that we are seeing now is only just the beginning of what is coming.

Unless a miracle happens, our country is going to keep heading down the road toward societal collapse.

For even more examples that show that our country is starting to come apart at the seams, please see the following articles that I have authored previously….

It won’t happen all at once, but unless our nation changes direction dramatically, we will see things get progressively worse and worse.

Instead of teaching our children to love and care for one another, we have taught them to be incredibly self-involved.  Today, way too many Americans deeply love themselves, deeply love money and are deeply addicted to entertainment.  Each new generation seems to be even more prideful, even more arrogant and even more violent.  As a nation, we are losing our empathy for others, our compassion for the needy and our respect for the elderly.  Our family units are breaking down and thousands of our communities are being transformed into hellholes.

What in the world is happening to America?

BREAKING: The Trial of George W. Bush and Tony Blair: Sparks Fly at the Kuala Lumpur War Crimes Tribunal

Trials for the Bush war criminals would definitely distract public attention from economy thefts

Global Research

Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia -

Today, seven judges of the Kuala Lumpur War Crimes Tribunal sat to hear formal charges against former President of the United States George W. Bush and former United Kingdom Prime Minister Tony Blair for Crimes  Against the Peace.

But before the actual proceedings could get underway, Defense Counsel Team Leader Jason Kay Kit Leon charged one of the Judges with bias.  Prosecutors characterized the allegation of bias and request for recusal as a "surprise" attack for which the Court had not had the opportunity to prepare.

World getting very small for Bush & Co.
Judge Niloufer Bhagwat, who served as a Judge with the Tokyo International Tribunal for War Crimes in Afghanistan, wrote in her decision that she found George W. Bush guilty for waging war against Afghanistan and the Afghan people.  In addition, Judge Bhagwat served as a prosecutor of George W. Bush at the People's Tribunal on Iraq in 2005 in Istanbul.  Defense Counsel alleged that because of Judge Bhagwat's participation in these various efforts and due to the opinions she has issued, that she cannot be fair in these Kuala Lumpur proceedings.  Judge Bhagwat did find that no Head of State, including George W. Bush, can exempt himself from international treaty organizations.

Judge Niloufer implored the panel in Istanbul to have the courage to speak the truth.  Counsel for the defendants found Judge Alfred Webre made the point that George W. Bush was served appropriately but failed to appear at the various people's tribunals seeking justice for the victims of his Presidential decisions to take the people of the United States to war.

Cheney, Bush, Rice... can't travel
However, he made the point in defense of his colleague, Judge Bhagwat, that President Bush did not fail to appear at a Vancouver dinner at which he collected a US$150,000 speaking fee.  Judge Webre stated that perhaps the Tribunal should have offered the former U.S. President a sizable speaking fee in order to gain his attendance at the Tribunal.

Francis Boyle, a part of the prosecuting team, spoke on the matter of bias and recusal based on precedents at the International Court of Justice and the United States Supreme Court, where judges are presumed to be able to render judgments despite what might appear at first glance to be conflict of interests.

Interestingly, both Democrats and Republicans in the U.S. have currently turned their sights onto two the Supreme Court Justices alleged to have bias on the President's health care law which the Supreme Court has agreed to hear during this term.  Justices Clarence Thomas and Elena Kagan have been challenged for by Republicans and Democrats, respectively, in the Court's health care deliberations due to the financial ties of Mrs. Clarence Thomas to organizations against the law and Justice Kagan's role in preparing the defense of the controversial health care law while she served as the Administration's Solicitor General.

Bush will be accompanied to the Hague by Tony Blair
The Kuala Lumpur War Crimes Tribunal Chief Judge Abdul Kadir Sulaiman announced that he was "shocked" by the turn of events that required this matter to be aired in public.  Judge Bhagwat announced that she would recuse herself from Charge 1 deliberations; her decision was accepted by the Court, and she left the Chambers.

Defense Counsel then proceeded to argue that the Tribunal lacked jurisdiction to consider the actions of the President and Prime Minister.  The Prosecution anticipated this line of argument and was prepared with its counter-argument and declared that they are prepared to show that war crimes have been committed and deriving its power directly from the people who refuse to be complicit in war crimes, the people will not be silenced and conscience cannot be silenced.

Francis Boyle added that complaints had already been filed at the International Criminal Court (ICC) against both Bush and Blair, but that the ICC had refused prosecution.  The Tribunal is expected to overrule Defense objection based on jurisdiction and proceed to the trial of President George Bush and Prime Minister Tony Blair.

UN vote on Saudi envoy plot ups pressure on Iran

UN unapologetic U.S. servant; ridiculous "plot" already been discredited; world laughing at U.S.

AFP
By Tim Witcher
11/19/2011

The UN General Assembly on Friday demanded that Iran cooperate with an investigation into an alleged plot to assassinate the Saudi envoy to Washington, widening the diplomatic divide between Tehran and its Western rivals.

The Iranian and US ambassadors to the United Nations linked a resolution overwhelmingly passed by the 193-member General Assembly to tensions over Iran's nuclear drive.

Iran doesn't get it:  Obama, Netanyahu mean to strike
The Saudi resolution on the plot was passed with 106 votes in favor, nine against and 40 abstentions. The United States accuses Iran of masterminding the plot. Iran strongly denies involvement.

The General Assembly said it was "deeply concerned" by the alleged plot against Saudi envoy Adel al-Jubeir.

The resolution called on Iran "to comply with all of its obligations under international law" and "cooperate with states seeking to bring to justice all those who participated in the planning, sponsoring, organization and attempted execution of the plot."

Saudi Arabia did not directly accuse Iran. Its UN ambassador, Abdullah al Mouallimi, told the assembly however that Tehran had been implicated "in the confessions of the main culprit behind this plot.

"Justice demands that we give full opportunity to the Islamic Republic of Iran to come clean and prove its innocence if it is not involved in this plot," he said.

Iran's ambassador Mohammad Khazaee called the resolution "mind-boggling" as nobody had yet been found guilty in court of organizing a plot.

He said the action was "based on an unsubstantiated claim by a state which has a long history of animosity against my country" -- a reference to the United States.

Khazaee said the resolution risked "creating tension in international relations."

"Ambassador" Susan "Butch" Rice, U.S. tough guy at U.N.
US ambassador Susan Rice told the assembly: "We cannot let this plot go unanswered. To do so would suggest that acts like these are within the bounds of acceptable behavior to resolve international conflicts."

An Iranian-American, Manssor Arbabsiar, pleaded not guilty to involvement in the plot in a New York court last month. An Iranian, Gholam Shakuri, is still wanted and said to be in Iran.

Arbabsiar has allegedly said he organized the hit on behalf of a cousin, whom he described as a high-ranking officer in the Quds Force, a special operations unit of Iran's elite Revolutionary Guards.

China voted against the resolution and Russia, Brazil, South Africa and India were among UN Security Council members who abstained.

The General Assembly vote came only hours after the UN's International Atomic Energy Agency in Vienna voted a resolution condemning Iran over its nuclear program.

Iran Quds forces wiped out Saddam's Republican Guard
The West accuses Iran of seeking a nuclear bomb, a charge the Islamic republic has repeatedly denied.

"Iran is increasingly isolated, here in this body at the United Nations in New York, again today in Vienna," Rice told reporters after the vote.

"I think this is indicative of the world's growing abhorrence with their behavior, including their support for terrorism, their pursuit of a nuclear weapons program and their gross violations of human rights."

The Iranian ambassador said the General Assembly resolution and the IAEA condemnation could be "inter-related".

"I think that since even the latest report of the IAEA could not prove any diversion, so maybe they wanted to find another way to accuse Iran," he said of the resolution.

Iran army tests defenses as nuclear tensions rise

Obama insane; parties it up on Bali as war with Iran and possibly Syria edge closer to reality

Reuters
11/20/2011

TEHRAN (Reuters) -

The Iranian army is conducting a four-day training exercise to test its defenses, state TV reported on Saturday, amid rising international tensions over Iran's nuclear program.

Iran states again it will retaliate to any military aggression
Press TV said the war games started on Friday and were taking place over 800,000 square km in the east of the country.

"The initial stage of the drills will assess the units' performance in setting up primary and secondary command centers and stationing tactical and swift reaction divisions," Press TV said.

Both Israel and the United States say they do not rule out striking Iran militarily if other means fail to stop the nuclear work that Tehran says is entirely peaceful.

However, Defense Secretary Leon Panetta has played down talk of any such action, warning that a war with Iran would harm the world economy.

The United Nations' nuclear watchdog has expressed "increasing concern" about Iran's nuclear program, after a U.N. report said the Islamic state appeared to have worked on designing an atom bomb, a charge Iran has repeatedly denied.

Government to impose martial law? Video

Military, Veterans will have nothing to do with this madness

RT
11/19/2011

The Obama administration may declare martial law, but enforcing it will be another thing.

Cops on the losing team, being used
Already stretched tighter than a banjo string, there is nowhere near enough civilian police to handle the job.

The question has been brought up and needs to be clarified again: Would active duty U.S. Military and Veterans fire on civilians?

The answer is no, we will not gun down our families, friends and colleagues.  In fact, when the first order is given the Armed Forces both Active and Veteran will pivot 180 degrees and open up on those giving the orders.

The police need to think long and hard about their actions in the coming weeks and months.  - Ed.

'Remains of US troops treated like trash' Video

This just beginning; Obama government responsible for deaths of American servicemen and women; "official" government stats are lies

Press TV

11/20/2011

US military mortuary workers have revealed that the remains of many US service members are treated like garbage, Press TV reports.

According to three US mortuary workers, the remains of dozens of US soldiers who have died in Iraq or Afghanistan have been lost, burned, and even thrown away like garbage in the Dover Air Force Base's landfill in Delaware.

The three added that such orders were authorized by their superiors, who asked them to remain silent on the matter. Two of the three workers were later fired.
Recent investigations have shed light onto the abuse of the remains of the soldiers.
Although investigators found a pattern of 'gross mismanagement,' none of the supervisors responsible were fired. Instead, two were transferred and the commander of the unit was given a reprimand.

Earlier, US Defense Secretary Leon Panetta said the recent revelations have prompted him to consider imposing tougher punishment on those responsible for the incidents.

The revelations come one year after the Arlington National Cemetery scandal, which revealed the misidentification of remains.

At least 6,325 US service members have lost their lives since the 2001 invasion of Afghanistan and the 2003 invasion of Iraq.

STRATFOR: Naval Update Map

The Naval Update Map shows an approximation of the current locations of U.S. Carrier Strike Groups (CSGs) and Amphibious Ready Groups (ARGs), the keys to U.S. dominance of the world’s oceans. A CSG is centered on an aircraft carrier, which projects U.S. naval and air power and supports a carrier air wing (CVW). The CSG includes significant offensive strike capability. An ARG is centered on three amphibious warfare ships, with a Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU) embarked. An MEU is built around a heavily reinforced and mobile battalion of Marines.

Carrier Strike Groups

  • The USS John C. Stennis CSG with CVW 9 embarked is under way in the U.S. 5th Fleet area of responsibility (AOR) conducting maritime security operations and support missions as part of Operations Enduring Freedom and New Dawn.
  • The USS George H.W. Bush CSG with CVW 8 embarked is under way in the U.S. 5th Fleet AOR conducting maritime security operations and support missions as part of Operations Enduring Freedom and New Dawn.
  • The USS George Washington with CVW 5 embarked is in the U.S. 7th Fleet AOR continuing its 2011 patrol.
  • The USS Ronald Reagan is under way in the U.S. 3rd Fleet AOR conducting operations supporting fleet replacement squadron carrier qualifications.

Amphibious Ready Groups/Marine Expeditionary Units

  • The USS Bataan ARG with the 22nd MEU embarked is supporting maritime security operations and theater security cooperation efforts in the U.S. 5th Fleet AOR.
  • The USS Essex ARG with the 31st MEU embarked is under way conducting operations in the western Pacific region. The USS Makin Island with the 11th MEU embarked departed Naval Base San Diego on Nov. 14 for its maiden deployment to the western Pacific region.
